A useful handbook on the science and application of dozens of naturally occurring and synthetic peptides now being approved through clinical trials
We have more than 7,000 peptides, that is relatively short protein chains, active in our bodies. Many of these are hormones or signalling compounds which have profound impact on our Health&Wellbeing. Dozens of these are going through clinical trials, and many are FDA approved. The first of these to be recognised and synthesised was insulin, a hundred years ago, for which it’s discoverers were awarded a Nobel Prize. Many more have equally profound impacts, and their mechanisms of action are now well understood.Several are already well known in competitive sport, both for mimicking anabolic hormones and also for accelerated healing of soft tissue injuries using naturally occurring compounds like BPC157 and TB500.The life extension movement is taking a lot of interest in them because several are potential keys to reversing the in-cell ageing processes. In addition, several are already FDA approved for addressing cognitive decline, and these have also been added to the field of Nootropics - enhancing our mental functions.Ageing, or rather decline in hormone levels and other signalling molecules, in combination with age accumulated chronic inflammation, is starting to seen as the root cause of most modern diseases. Indeed, the biggest risk factor for Covid is clearly age, or rather age accumulated inflammation. Hence, although just published in 2019 at the outbreak of the pandemic, the author points out that peptides can pep-up a failing immune system, especially in targeting the Thymus. This book gives a good overview of the cellular biology behind the effectiveness of peptides, but also takes that all the way through to dosing protocols for clinicians. As a scientist, I really liked the extensive bibliography describing mechanisms and clinical trials.Given the growing interest in Peptides, especially In the sports arena and life-extension communities, I think the book could have achieved a greater impact if it described some of the mechanisms in general terms rather than technical short-hand, but at least the protocols can still be implemented.

Good basic book
doesn't go into much detail about each peptide. didn't learn anything new about GHK Cu. there's just a one page summary.
