## Overview

The MXR Poly Blue Octave pedal combines four independently controlled octave effects with a fuzz inspired by the MXR Blue Box and dual-mode modulation, offering both polyphonic and monophonic pitch shifting. Designed for versatility and durability, it features true bypass, expression pedal compatibility, and a rugged metal build, making it a powerhouse for guitarists seeking rich, dynamic octave tones and effects in one compact unit.

## Description

The MXR Poly Blue Octave brings modern and classic pitch shifting styles together with fuzz and modulation to create the ultimate octave pedal for tonecrafters and sonic seekers. The Poly Blue Octave features four separate octave divisions—one octave down, two octaves down, one octave up, and two octaves up—and you get to control the level of each in the mix. Each is polyphonic by default, which means they sound just as amazing with chords as they do with single note passages. Your dry signal gets its own level control, as well, so you can dial in the perfect blend of pitch-shifted tones. The Mono switch takes you back to the gritty, monophonic tones of analog style pitch shifters. In this mode, the sub-octave signals have the warm vibes and raw personality of a pedal such as the MXR Vintage Bass Octave, while the higher octave signals resemble the Octavio Fuzz with its fuzz intensity dialed all the way back. The Poly Blue Octave comes equipped with an unruly fuzz that’s inspired by the classic MXR Blue Box Fuzz. Applied to all five signals, the fuzz volume can be adjusted using the Dry knob after pressing and holding the Fuzz button. When used with the sub-octave signals, the fuzz sounds thick and subterranean. Over the higher pitched signals, the fuzz is searing and synth-like. Run them all at the same time for a choir of thunder and lightning. For infusing your octave tones with an alluring sense of motion, from thick and syrupy to frenzied and frantic, the Poly Blue Octave features a dual-mode modulation circuit. In polyphonic mode, the circuit provides an uncanny simulation of the famous Leslie effect, and while in monophonic mode, it provides classic swirls and swooshes inspired by the Phase 90. Like the fuzz effect, the modulation applies to all five signals when engaged. The Mod knob adjusts the rate of the effect—when you want it off, just roll the Mod knob back fully counterclockwise. Through the EXP jack, the Poly Blue Octave allows you to control various settings with an expression pedal such as the Volume (X) 8 Pedal or an off-board switch such as the MXR Tap Tempo Switch to sweep between two different knob and switch configurations or toggle the fuzz and mono modes on and off. The MXR Poly Blue Octave delivers high-performance pitch shifting, fuzz, and modulation in a ruggedly reliable housing with true bypass switching. Put this into your signal chain, and open up new sonic frontiers.

Review: If you could only have one pedal this would be a good choice - I love everything about this pedal, starting with the sparkle blue finish. This thing is ready versatile, with the ability to use your dry tone along with one or two octaves up and/or down. Each octave knob along with the dry tone can be adjusted to your desired level as each one has a dedicated knob which acts like a simple volume control for each respective octave (or dry signal). There is a mono button you can press to switch the octave effect between monophonic (the pedal works with single notes) and polyphonic (the pedal works with multiple notes, chords, etc.) so you have the choice there. There is also a fuzz button which applies some sweet fuzz to your tone. The only downside here is that you can't control the level of fuzz applied, but you can make adjustments to the tone and volume on your guitar to change the characteristic of the fuzz. Lastly they packed in a modulation knob which drives either their Phase 90 phaser effect, or a Leslie/rotating speaker effect depending which mode you have the pedal in (monophonic of polyphonic). So at the end of the day you are getting a very versatile octave pedal, a fuzz pedal, a phaser, and a Leslie emulator... all in a $200 dollar pedal. This one is a no brainer.
Review: It's incredible! - Nothing to dislike. It exceeded my expectations. I have purchased 2 other octavers (I won't mention the brands but one was cheap and the other not so much less in cost as this MXR Poly Blue Octaver but neither could touch it, no way! They would perform well on mono (unchoosable, really) but on any chords they are dreadful. I am mainly a rhythm guitarist and this MXR is incredible. The organ-like and bell-like effects open the door to inspiration and experimentation in my playing like no other pedal I've owned before and since I play alone, as many others do as well, it can add fullness and unbelivable dynamics to playing solo. I was gambling on laying out $200 for it but I am NOT sorry I spent it now. I've bought >200 even >100 guitars so 200 for a mere pedal seemed high but this is no MERE pedal. Sombody did their homework developing the MXR Poly Blye Octaver and it's worth the price of admission.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A different POG/pitchfork that's great for doom
*by T***A on August 22, 2023*

I have several octave and pitch pedals. This one is unique in that it does something different than your traditional pitch shifter. As far as I can tell you cannot actually "dive" this pedal. You cannot start at one pitch and ramp to another. Instead this pedal offers 4 octaves -2,-1,1, and 2 and you can blend them all together. The expression pedal works by setting your pedal at 0 and setting the pedal one way and then pushing the pedal all the way down to set another setting, the expression pedal sweeping between the 2 and even triggering the fuzz if needed. I think this pedal is great for Doom/Sludge as you can create a controllable sub-frequency push to your signal.
