Overall satisfied with this closer
I like the price. This was purchased as a replacement for a high traffic door and this is where I am not satisfied. As a professional locksmith, the building engineers/contractors put the wrong door closer for that door bank (4 doors). If it is a high traffic 70-100 entries per day, go with a more adequate closer.

Great Product, Okay Installation instructions
I am definitely not a handyman, but I had a leaking door closer that needed replacing. I ordered this one, and have been very pleased with its operation for nearly a year. The only complaint/trouble I had was from the instructions, which were poorly written (or at least for someone who has no prior experience installing one of these). I eventually figured it out, but it did take some trial and error...since then, I am very pleased with teh operation and would definitely buy again!

Poor Quality
We recently moved into our new shop and ended up needing some door closers on a couple of the interior doors. I did a bit of research and decided to go with this Size 4 model since I mistakenly assumed that the larger spring size was needed for a wide/heavy door. After they arrived, I went through the directions and got them both installed. The installation itself wasn't hard - even though I had never installed a closer before. Mostly it's just a lot of measuring to be sure you are drilling holes in the right place.Once the first closer was installed, I realized that the doors were a lot harder to open than I had anticipated. I adjusted the position of the arm (as mentioned in the instructions) to reduce the tension - but it was still more than we had been expecting. Regardless of that, I decided we could live with it and went ahead with the install of the second closer.(For anyone who is under the same impression I was about spring size, the spring size is what determines how hard it will be to open the door - not necessarily the size of door it can support. With our 36" solid-core security doors, I found the Size 3 springs are a much better fit as far as tension goes.)Unfortunately, even though we probably would have gotten used to the heavy force required to open the doors, they started leaking hydraulic fluid almost immediately. If it had been only one of them, I probably would have thought it was a fluke; but, they both did it. (I will admit that it's possible we just got two out of a bad batch.) The carpet was was discolored under both doors since so much fluid leaked out - but we were able to get most of it out using a solution that one of my guys had (he used to be a carpet cleaner). After a couple of weeks I finally pulled them down altogether and replaced them with new Size 3 closers that were actually from the same company - and those are working perfectly.Anyway, I wouldn't recommend this door closer to anybody for a couple of reasons. The first is that it really is too heavy compared to any door I've ever used. The second is the reliability factor since they started leaking pretty much right away. I would highly recommend sticking with either the Size 2 or Size 3 closers since I suspect they are under less pressure and we haven't had any leakage issues at all.

Strong like bull
You should know about the sizes before you order a closer. Size 4 is quite strong. I had a fire door in my new house that simply would not close with its built-in hinge springs. If it wouldn't close and latch, the code enforcement officer could not give me a C of O (Certificate of Occupancy). Well, the closer did the job.It turns out the the reason the door would not close on its own was that I built the house too tight. Opening windows in the garage and the house would let the door close on its own. But what good is a fire door that only works if the windows are open? This solved the problem for a reasonable price.

Very strong, actually too strong
Easy to install after deciphering the directions. Used this opener on a 36" steel exterior door to the garage. The door is one of those home depot type doors with a steel skin but mostly foam filled. They're not really very heavy, but have enough weight that when the kids slam the door it really shakes things up. Rather than yell at the kids, I decided to put a closer on instead. It really works well for closing the door, easy to adjust, closes the door firmly with no slam. The only problem is this is a #4 spring and it's just way too strong for this size/weight door. It takes significant effort to get the door open -- if you're in a hurry, you're gonna bend your nose. I'm not sure that little kids could even get the door to open at all. There is no adjustment for spring tension. I'm going to replace it with a #2 spring size and see if the results are any better.

Excellent Quality
I am very satisfied with this product. It came ready to install. I had to drill new holes for the bolts compared to the old one, but it worked out alright. It works like a charm, and the door closes smoother than it has ever closed. It is being used for our large office with people constantly coming and going, and everyone agrees, the new hydraulic closer is better! Thanks!

this one works
We have a really heavy storefront glass door that has allowed the wind to destroy several closers . This one is holding the door closed and closing the door even in the wind. This is on an entry door right out in the open with no walls to block the wind. We are wide open with automotive bays and this one works.

These are great, just make sure you get the right size
These are great, just make sure you get the right size. It's confusing and the stated dimensions and descriptions don't always make it easy to figure out - some of the dims appear to be for the box the thing ships in instead of the unit itself.
