What are the dimensions of the flat area in the middle of the 9.7 inch size?

7 5/8 x 3 3/8 exactly. Hope this helps.

deep is the inside of12" rectangular version? Want to use to serve asparagus; concerned the inside is too shallow for liquid.

Not meant for liquids, but will hold a little sauce or gravy but not much. Should be great for asparagus.

How many pieces come in the set?

Four plates in the set that are exactly the same.

Liked so much I ordered more

Excellent sized plates for either salads or serving appetizers. Well made. Don't wobble. Sturdy. Dishwasher and microwave friendly. I originally ordered 1 set (4 plates) and liked them so much I ordered a second set of 4 plates
