Whilst the rich and privileged prosper, the poor still struggle to keep a roof over their head and food on the table. In fact, we now have food banks where needy, hungry people have to leave their pride at the door and queue for handouts. Benefits are closely monitored if you find yourself in the position to apply for them, and vilified as "scroungers" by newspapers such as the Daily Mail. Government rhetoric tells us we will prosper if we just work hard enough, and the truth is, for many we will not. People with powerful connections silence others and there is so much fake news around people are confused. This diverting tactic is very effective as no-one knows exactly what is the truth. The pension thing is on point too. It keeps rising and penalising people who are too sick and old to work. Work is apparently very good for us, no matter how hard or stressful it is.
