Animal Farm: New Edition of Orwell's Brilliant Political Satire (Polygon Classics)

I loved this book. I am amazed it took me this long to read it. It is as relevant today as it ever was, perhaps even more so. Whilst the rich and privileged prosper, the poor still struggle to keep a roof over their head and food on the table. In fact, we now have food banks where needy, hungry people have to leave their pride at the door and queue for handouts. Benefits are closely monitored if you find yourself in the position to apply for them, and vilified as "scroungers" by newspapers such as the Daily Mail. Government rhetoric tells us we will prosper if we just work hard enough, and the truth is, for many we will not. People with powerful connections silence others and there is so much fake news around people are confused. This diverting tactic is very effective as no-one knows exactly what is the truth. The pension thing is on point too. It keeps rising and penalising people who are too sick and old to work. Work is apparently very good for us, no matter how hard or stressful it is. Let's hope we will not be put in a van when we are no longer useful to society and shipped off to a knackers yard.

Orwell’s satire of Stalin’s dictatorship is funny, ironic and poignant at the same time. I have just re read it to my daughter in year 5. Through a fairy tale and accessible writing Orwell vividly illustrates the themes of power, vanity and corruption.

This book cover matches with my other book (1984) cover, this book is very interesting and will definitely grip you with every single line, George Orwell did a fantastic job creating this book!
