This projector provides an amazing standalone media experience like no other.
This Emotn H1 portable projector was smaller than the palm of my hand, yet something I had a lot of fun with and found useful in ways different from any other projector I'd used. I'm breaking down my review into three key points pertaining to this projector's unique purpose: portability, image quality, and speaker. The 7800mAh battery was much appreciated, as it allows this projector to operate entirely standalone (with the exception of the remote). This operation can last over the length of a full movie. Additionally, this projector's built-in operating system frees you from an external media player to use YouTube, Netflix, and many other platforms as you wish. So while this all took some time to get used to as I've only used traditional projectors up to this point, I soon appreciated this ultra-portable form factor. I did think the industrial design was tasteful as well. The 1080p projected image with a brightness up to 250 ANSI Lumens provided visuals that look quite good for moderate viewing distances. While it's generally required to shut off external lights and ensure the image is toward the smaller end of the recommended effective display size, they are certainly pleasant and even excellent considering you can grab that handle and take them wherever you want to go. The last major point is the speaker. To allow our expectations to not get too lofty, let me remind that itโs a built-in single speaker on a projector you could easily toss with one hand. So while itโs not some crazy cinematic experience, it is much better than a phone and has impressive volumes. It is to a normal projectors' built-in speakers as the image quality is to them: great for being in such a compact, standalone body. Overall, I can see myself using this device for many months to come. It's convenient, effective at what it's designed for, and affordably priced.

Overpriced, not worth it
I purchased this guy because I was interested in being able to play movies through the device and the battery so I can watch movies outside. Whenever I tried to play Netflix though, I got an error message that I am not authorized on that device. After some research, it appears that error is related to the way the app was installed on the device. It was not properly done, almost like a jailbroken phone. I used a fire stick which knocks that feature from the reason why this projector is pricey for its class in projectors. Then thereโs the battery. It lasts an hour and a half, or just under that. Not long enough for any modern movie, or as advertised. Itโs also not bright at all. I had to wait until it was very dark out and it was still a dim picture compared to any expectations. I did learn though that if you use it while plugged in, itโs much brighter. Although, the charger is not good enough for use while projecting because it gets extremely hot. But again, all that knocks off any justification for a higher price tag. The menu options leave much to be desired, no zoom feature, no case. About the only thing I thought was impressive was the speakers. They are pretty decent compared to others. Iโve purchased 4 projectors now and settled on a $200 LED projector that gives this one a run for its money, and comes with a case and extras. You have to be careful all the options and different ways they explain brightness and clarity. Do yourself a favor and do some research first so you have a clear understanding of what youโre looking for, if this is your first projector purchase like it was mine. Would have saved myself a lot of trouble and frustration!

Impressive for the price point!
I was in the market for a low end, portable projector. I really wanted a projector that was under $300, battery powered option for portability, 1080p NATIVE resolution, and a built in smart TV/Android TV. This projector exceeded my expectations. With the current coupon I paid $199 for the unit. The system is remarkably responsive at this price point. The built in App Store was easy to use. There was very little bloatware and almost all of the pre installed applications are actually useful. I tried most of the popular streaming apps and after updating to the current version of each app I had no issues streaming video. The picture quality is very very good at this price point. Keep in mind youโre paying for a projector, a built in battery and an android TV box all bundled into a portable package. I was quite impressed. I really didnโt expect to get anything with decent quality. The picture is beyond watchable and actually pretty decent. I have not verified that the display is exactly 1920x1080 pixels but to the naked eye I really believe that it is. While this device does have a built in battery it seems like the brightness is cut in half when youโre running on battery only. Plugged in, you get the full brightness. Still the picture is best in a completely dark room but when plugged in itโs watchable in indoor lighting so long as itโs on the dimmer side. One fun thing I found with this projector is if you plug in a wireless keyboard/mouse dongle you can use a 2.4Ghz wireless keyboard/mouse with Android which makes navigation really easy! The bundled file explorer application supports SMB connections so you can actually connect to a server/NAS on your network and stream media, copy files and even install APKs you have on a share. So far I havenโt noticed a single ad in any of the built in apps and the EmotnUI interface is clean and responsive. If youโre in the market for an affordable (under $300) projector and want a decent picture and built in smart functionality this projector is the one to get!

really good for the price
pretty good overall from what I know. only real complaints: some minor lag, so not good for serious gaming (although we play plenty on this and its fine for it), the charger is USB C which is nice but its a specific kind so I cant use my phone charger for instance to charge it, i have to use the supplied charger. I am hoping its easy to replace also because within the first few weeks of getting it, the charger cable tip pulled out of the end a bit and i am not sure it will last too much longer as is. final complaint is the screws for the leather strap are a plastic and one end already broke off, so thats another thing i hope to get replaced if possible but its not a vital part of the thing. best part is the picture quality (of course could be better) is really good i think for the price. the speakers could be louder but again, pretty dang good for the price, and if i want better sound i connect it to my sonos with the Bluetooth. i recommend for anyone that wants to have indoor or outdoor movie nights (really works best when darker) but dont want to spend on a super high end setup.

You can't adjust brightness or contrast on the HDMI input
UPDATED Have been contacted by the vendor to address some of my issues. - An app can be downloaded from the Emotn store to allow iPhone mirroring without ads - Power supply has been changed to one that doesn't overheat - Vendor recommended a factory reset to solve the slow UI - unlikely to solve it as I'd only done a basic setup and added a couple of apps so there wasn't much to reset --------------------------- Packaging looks nice. It's packed well and everything's in one piece. The remote is similar to a Firestick remote and takes AAAs although batteries aren't included. Firing up the projector it's worth noticing it's not terribly loud. We start at fairly typical Android-ish setup screen where we connect to WiFi and then the launcher comes up. This is Emotn's launcher, not the standard Android or Android TV launcher. Let's get setup... auto-keystone works well enough on the vertical axis and if we want to fix up the corners manually we can do that in the settings. So, so far it's quiet, looks decent, and it's Android based. So far so good. Let's load up some apps because here's where it starts to get a bit strange. Although you can use the Google Play store, Emotn has their own store. As far as I can see this is to basically force specific versions of apps rather than the ones in the Google Play store. For example, the regular Play Store Hulu app won't work so you have to use the Emotn one. Each time you add an app from the Emotn store you get the "this machine is loading an app from a 3rd party, it may not be secure" message which doesn't make you feel great. Whilst we've been noodling around downloading apps we've noticed that we've got plenty of storage to do so (16GB with 10GB free) but the remote's a bit cranky depending on what angle pointing from and the box isn't terribly responsive. In fact it's slow. Very, very slow. But it's cheap and we're optimistic types, right ? So let's play some media. Plugging in the FireTV and starting up Disney+ again we're all good to go. How's the sound ? Not great but not terrible. As for picture settings we're lacking in some contrast so we'll pull up the settings app and change the contrast. The settings app gives you a photo of a girl in a park or similar and it obviously changes as we adjust the contrast. Anything above 50% and whites start to get very washed out very quickly. So we'll leave the brightness sort of where it is and tweak the contrast at least. As for the colour, everything's very green. Let's try "Sport" setting... still green. Let's try another setting... still green. Let's set everything back to default... still green, now low contrast. So you tweak until it's not absolutely terrible and then go back to the Firestick and it all looks exactly the same as it did before. So, we change settings again, go back to the Firestick and it still looks exactly the same. So, because we're inquisitive types, we max out the brightness so that the test picture is completely white then go back to the Firestick and... it's still exactly the same. So any changes we make to brightness or contrast don't actually apply to the HDMI input. Then we notice they don't apply to the launcher either. At this point we aren't happy campers because we can't even change the brightness and contrast on the HDMI input. Oh, and everything's still pretty green. Meh, let's unplug it and move it to a darker area - hold on... why is the power adapter that hot ? Like, scary hot. As for the stated specs of the unit, let's take a look... Contrast ratio : Amazon description says 12,000:1, Emotn website says 3000:1. No way is this putting out a 12,000:1 contrast ratio. Brightness : 250 ANSI. Maybe although that seems a bit optimistic. Projected size and distance : Emotn website says 1.5 to 4.5m with a screen size of 65" to 251". Amazon says 1.5m to 6m with a screen size of 60" to 240". In my case I'm doing 120" at 3.3m. 120 at 3.3m should be pretty easy for a projector with these specs but the focus is a bit rough. Noise : less than 29db. Absolutely not but if you want to tell me it's in the mid 30s I'm ok with that. So let's do some quick pros : - 1080p - Sealed light engine so now worrying about dust, which is nice for a CCC - Auto keystone and decent 4-point manual adjustment is awesome - Super portable, can be battery powered and mounted to a camera tripod - Android with Bluetooth and Wifi so if the included remote dies I can easily hook up something else to replace it - Reasonably quiet Cons : - Colour reproduction isn't great - Focus at reasonable range isn't great - Contrast and brightness can't be adjusted for devices plugged in to HDMI - Contrast is poor - Brightness above 50% leads to significant white blow-out - Android OS is slow and laggy - Google Play store apps may or may not work - Power adaptor runs ridiculously hot, as in "I'm really not sure I should be plugging this in" hot. Ultimately if you want to watch stuff in a dark room at a small screen size (say 60"), at $200 it's fine, but you won't be using a 100" screen in the back yard.

The battery life is absolutely nonexistent.
The projector is fine. It's worked well with everything I've plugged into it. The only drawbacks are the terrible battery life and the setup it requires out of the box. (It immediately needs updates, so if you're planning on using this somewhere remote, you should pull it out and connect it to the internet for updates first.) The battery life is completely nonexistent on mine. I've charged it and charged it, and it won't start unless it's plugged into the wall. If you're looking for a solid, lightweight projector to use indoors, this is a decent product. If you're looking for something that you could charge and use without an external power supply of some kind, don't waste your money. Buy something else.

Great for my outdoor theatre!
So I find it amazing that some give this projector one star and some five. I am directing this at those who gave it one. This projector came in the afternoon and I couldn't wait to set it up that night to watch basketball outside. I was skeptical that I would be happy with it at a little over $200 and I saved the box thinking that I might be returning it. I was not disappointed. It was bright enough and I was happy with the refresh rate. It was easy to set up and those keystone adjustments are crazy good. So yep, I gave this a 5 star and some out there gave it one. Here's the deal: You can spend over a grand on projectors. This one is a lot cheaper. One star? I don't expect this to look as good as my 65 inch Samsung TV. Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion but for those out there with perspective (it's cheap and works great for an outside theatre), I gave this 5 stars.

Best Projector for it's Price.
BY far this is the best projector I have tried for the price point. Plenty of features that the competitors don't offer. I have been using the projector for about a week or so and can't say enough good things about it. The built in speaker is loud enough to fill a room, plenty of ways to connect a device or use the project built in software to use streaming services. The picture is 1080p but seems very clear to me when watching movies or anime. And the best feature of all is that it has a built in battery to take the projector on the go without cords. Keep in mind that it's only about two hours on battery but that's just about long enough for a full movie. Worst case scenario you can just keep the power plugged in. If you are in search of a projector for this price point, check the Emont H1.
