Good for the price.
The phone is very basic but does the job. Can work without batteries but they are needed for the display. No phone book, so just the callers number comes up. Just need it for the hall, where the ring can be heard in every room.

Initial observations
Bought this phone based on the mostly positive reviews on this website. Positives: The phone worked straight out of the box and came with the correct leads to connect to a UK phone socket. Despite the warning on the bottom of the phone to install batteries before connecting, the phone still worked correctly without them. The LCD display, handsfree speaker and Caller Id (number) identification all worked with just line power and no batteries. Build quality for the price (£21) is adequate and button presses are responsive. Sound quality from the handset is good The included instructions are basic but clearly laid out. Negatives: The handsfree speaker operation is not great. It has two volume settings and the highest is not particularly loud. Also people complain during the call that you sound far away when using the handsfree speaker. The phone does not have a phonebook or any way to save new contacts. Therefore caller id will only ever show the number ringing on screen and never a saved name from the non existent phonebook.

Works with VoIP Adaptors
Works fine as a desk phone connected to a VoIP adaptor on a fibre line. It's solid and has some weight to it. The keys bounce a bit so it needs care not to enter the same key twice. Speaker is useful for waiting in tedious call centre queues. Caller ID screen is clear without batteries in both daylight and artificial light. The battery powered blue backlight is welcome in low light. There is a health advantage in that there is no extra pulsed RF radiation adding to the household total.
