This is a worthy log splitter. HUGE time (and back) saver. If you can fit a log in the area, it will split it. I've split logs up to about 3' across. I had one hardwood stump that was one giant solid knot that it wouldn't split full sized: it was about 25" across and was the stump of a black walnut that had 2 trunks growing out of the same area, so it was literally just one big giant knot. I had to cut it down a little in length (about half) and then ran it through again and it worked fine. Most normal knots this thing will just power through, I had to go out of my way to find one that gave it a pause. This will save your back, and once you get the logs chopped up to the right length (I usually did about 20-22in long) this thing splits them like a champ. I used this thing getting wood for the whole winter, and heated my house using solely wood heat, highly highly recommended. Seems as durable as a tank, very low noise level (it's electric/hydraulic), and fits nicely on my workbench. There's a safety switch that's just far enough from the start button to be effective. This thing paid for itself last winter, and then some. I can't overstate what a time saver this was, I was hand splitting my wood the winter before last. OF NOTE: Split your wood before it freezes. Since it's an electric/hydraulic splitter, when it gets below freezing it won't work (the oil freezes up). No big deal, I had this happen on 2 occasions when it was below 20 here, I moved the splitter out into direct sunlight and waited a couple hours (and for it to warm up a little) and then split enough to keep me warm, absolutely no issues with it.

I have now owned three log splitters in my 40 years of splitting wood. This is my first electric splitter. I have no idea what 6.5 tons means and I frankly don't care. I am 73 now and only split about 4 full cords a year. For the past three years I have used my ax on the easy ones and rented a splitter for the twisty ones. I have a good technique and lots of experience ax splitting but it jars my shoulders and hands so I get sore. The reviews on this splitter are overwhelmingly positive and the price with stand is very affordable. Delivery was five days before the estimated delivery date. The box it comes in is well over 100 lbs. I opened the box on the garage floor by cutting the box along a side so nothing had to be pulled out of the top. If you have a helper great, I am a hermit. The directions as others have mentioned are no good but the way forward on the build was obvious. I must comment on the screws and bolts. They were well machined and I had no trouble with them. The holes they went into were well lined up and I had no issues there. I could not lift the unit so I built it on the garage floor upside down, so the stand was up and the splitting unit was on the cardboard from the packing. Flipping it right side was my challenge. I could not do it with a sideways flip. I turned it on it's short edge, blocked wheels down and was able to flip it that way with a modicum of effort. All in all assembly took an hour. The wheels are small and hard and I think I will look into a better set. The wheels are held in place by cotter pins. It was time to split. I currently have ash. Thanks emerald ash borer :-( This splitter had NO PROBLEM with the wood. I was splitting pieces 18 inches long with twist and turns and branch butts in the grain easily. I thought I would mind having to use two hands to run the ram but I didn't mind. I do have a foot pedal I will try out as time permits. If you think an electric log splitter is beneath you, not worth it or no good for home fire wood production on a limited scale you are wrong. After one session I heartily recommend the BILT HARD . I bought this splitter for a tree i cut down on front yard. I reviewed alot of others, but this one was the best for its price and power it has, I can tell you, i been trying to beat this log splitter to the ground and so far, after 3 cords of wood i have split, this is still going like a beast. I have maybe sharpened the wedge on it, once .Would help more if i sharpened it more I have never filled liquid in . I have kept this outside in rain, and dirt all over it. Still, it keeps on going.. I have split tree cuts close to 30 inches in diameter, some even more larger. I had dug a trench for the log splitter to kind of sit in, ground level so i can roll the logs over it to split. Check out the photos. you can see the size of logs to the wheelbarrow, give you an idea on diameter. Once i split it, you can see other end on almost split through.(Photos are out of order, but it's the 3rd and 7th photo that it cracked, the 6th photo is the log split in half). Once i gave it a wiggle, it broke in half. After that, you just keep splitting those pieces up. Tip, i put wood on the ground for me to roll the log up, onto the splitter. If i have to every buy another log splitter again, it will be this one... For the price of it and what it can do..... WOW. So amazed. Showing you, that this log splitter can and will split larger logs, than what is written on requirements. Really, the only bad things i had was that the front metal supports are thin, and the bolts get lose fast. Keep an eye on those, maybe put Loctite on those bolts. Last, is the knob where you loosen up for the Fluid to release, that knob is now broken half off, because a log hit it, as it was splitting, But, its okay now, it was just the plastic ,that got broken, i can still twist it close or open by hand..

Great wood splitter heavy duty thick iron construction so should last a good while only issue i have is you have press the power button and the action lever to get it to work. so two hands on controls instead of one makes it hard to work at times with larger pieces of wood i have split 20 inch in diameter oak with it without issues so it's pretty powerful. mounted it on a folding dolly so i can easily move it around my yard works great

Very good and well made. Split a whole maple and white oak that had fallen in the woods behind my house for my pizza oven. Got a full face cord from each tree which easily paid for the splitter. I expect many more years of use from this splitter. And it NOT gas powered so I don't have to use any magic words when attempting to start it! At 6.5 tons It does not split every log but it easily split 95% of what I had to split.

When little Timmy wore the motor out on his old log splitter last month, I knew we needed something with actual kick. Four years old is right around the corner, and a boy simply cannot enter his mid-preschool crisis with a pile of unsplit cordwood sitting in the yard. This 6.5-ton unit was the perfect solution. The setup was effortless, though we did have to prop Timmy up on two telephone books so his safety goggles would stop slipping down his snout and so his tiny, sticky hands could actually reach both the hydraulic lever and the push button at the same time. His motor skills are still developing, but honestly, the raw joy on his face as 15-inch oak logs burst into splinters is something you cannot buy in the toy aisle. His daycare teacher tried to tell us that "heavy machinery isn't appropriate for show-and-tell," but she quieted down real fast once he processed three cords of damp maple right in the sandbox during morning recess. A few things to keep in mind for fellow parents: The stand height is ideal for adults, but you will need a sturdy stepping stool if your toddler has shorter legs. The two-handed operation is a fantastic teaching tool for improving hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness. Clean off the hydraulic fluid before naptime, as it tends to stick to blankies. He slept for fourteen hours straight after clearing out our back woodlot. Best birthday present ever!

This is way better than trying to use an ax or a hand splitter. The unit has good power and was even able to split large full logs. I mostly use it to make smaller wedges from the pre-split wood I purchased, but I did have some full logs I needed to prepare as well. It is a two hand operation, as you need to press a button and press the operating arm at the same time, which doesn't allow you to steady the log, it isn't the end of the world for most of the logs, but some did prove difficult. Also, the key thing to know is there is a maximum length, so I just trimmed or cut the longer logs in half.

I used this today for the first Setup was easy. I checked the hydraulic fluid level and added some as it was at the bottom of the dipstick, maybe 8 ounces. I also loosened the vent screw 2-3 turns before I used it. I split a large Locust tree that came down in a storm in April. It was cut into rounds then and it seasoned through a Kentucky summer but the rounds were very heavy. I split ~ 22 rounds. The smallest being 9" in diameter and 16" long. The largest being 14" in diameter and 19" long. I also had two that were 10" in OD and 20" long ( barely fitting ). Most of these were at least 80 pounds each. 6 or 7 had multiple knots. I wasn't sure how this machine would handle this. It exceeded my expectations. It split all of them with relative ease. I had to reposition some of the really knotty ones but I still split these into nice small pieces. Pros: Very powerful for the home owner. If your logs are under 14" in diameter and under 18" long you will have no trouble . Relatively Quiet. The videos I watched on this were noisier that using it in person. I wasn't bothered by the cycle time. I never felt I was waiting on the machine. Cons: The stroke limiter clamp is goofy. I never used it. I broke the plastic top off the vent screw. It must have been hit by a log? No problem. It still works fine. The wheels are small and cheap. No good for hauling over just a lawn. The unit doesn't sit evenly vertically. I had to put a small 2x4 under the hand guard to get it to sit vertically. I should also note I used this off of a 20A circuit with a 12AWG/3 Extension Cord.that is 50' long. I had no issues. I'm going to build a small stand from left over lumber to not have to bend over so much. In summary. If your needs are to use a log splitter 4 times /year and split 3 or 4 chords of wood this is a good choice. Also, it should last a long time if you.maintain it , change the hydraulic fluid annually. Don't drop it. If you're an idiot and do nothing it will probably last you 2 or 3 years. If you.take care of it I think it will last you 40 or 50 uses. For $300 this exceeded my expectations.
