Updated: capsules work! Half do not taste good, though

*by A***. on Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2017*

I really, really wanted these to be awesome. I'm a Starbucks app-using, Starbucks coffee bean-buying, person who looks forward to the holiday red cups. So, when I saw these, of course I had to try them, and here's the thing: when they worked, they were good but over a fourth of them did not work. The sizing is just a little bit off and the capsule doesn't quite fit correctly into the machine. Not all of the capsules -- for me, all of the Guatamalan capsules, half of the espresso, and some of the Kenyan and Colombian capsules did not work.I thought maybe I was doing something wrong, but I haven't had a single problem with Nespresso capsules--just the Starbucks ones. So, what happens? When I put the Starbucks capsule in, when the machine pressurizes, it actually opens up, releasing steam. It's scary, potentially dangerous, and the cup fills with about a half a shot of espresso and grounds so the capsule is completely wasted. This has happened over and over and over again. I'm not sure whether it's my machine (the Inissia) or whether these would fare better in another machine, but I do know that, sadly enough, these are not for me.That said: when the capsules do work, the coffee is great. It's better than what you get at Starbucks. It's just that too many of these capsules do not work, and when they don't work, it is dangerous. The amount of capsules that do not work makes purchasing Nespresso capsules more cost effective.Still, if you really love Starbucks, and it's worth a little more expense-wise (and you're not afraid of your machine opening while under pressure), these could fit the bill for you.Edited:After a few more trial and errors, the capsules have been fitting into my machine well! You really have to press the lever down because for some reason it takes a little more oomph to get it to latch than the nespresso capsules. That said, sadly, even with the capsules working well, I can't recommend them highly. The Guatamalan capsules and the espresso capsules do not taste good -- they seem to have either a chemical taste or a burnt taste. They really taste awful. The Colombian capsules were excellent and the Kenyan ones were okay.I'd recommend skipping the variety pack and going for the Colombian ones.

Tastes good, but the poorly-designed capsule may damage your Nespresso machine

*by G***M on Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2018*

I like all the capsule flavors in the Starbucks variety pack: they faithfully reproduce the flavors you experience when you are in a Starbucks café.Sadly, the capsules themselves are made by a third party, and do not faithfully reproduce the design of an authentic Nespresso capsule. My Nespresso machine will barely close over a Starbucks capsule: I have to use so much force to get the machine to close that I fear that the clamping mechanism would break if I tried to use Starbucks capsules in my Nespresso machine on a regular basis. So, I will not buy these Starbucks capsules again.I've attached photos that show a Starbucks capsule on the left and an authentic Nespresso capsule on the right. You can see that the designs are quite different. Did anybody from Starbucks make this comparison before choosing their third-party capsule design? It's hard to believe that a big corporation like Starbucks would choose a capsule design that differs so greatly from an authentic Nespresso capsule, especially considering that in May 2018 Starbucks and Nestlé announced a "global coffee alliance" to (among other goals) enable the "Starbucks brand portfolio to be represented on Nestlé’s single serve capsule systems, including Nespresso". Do these ill-fitting capsules demonstrate how Starbucks wants to be represented on Nespresso machines? Also, it's disappointing that a corporation like Starbucks, which claims to be environmentally aware, released these capsules without offering a capsule recycling program like the one that Nespresso provides to their customers.Starbucks did a good job developing the flavors of these capsules, but didn't address the other issues that stand in the way of making Starbucks capsules a satisfying experience for their customers.

    Not Starbucks brand

*by C***R on Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2019*

Beware! These are not official Starbucks Nespresso pods, I just realized this because nestle announced that they would be releasing new coffees from Starbucks for Nespresso and Nescafé Dolce Gusto systems, when I saw the images I realized they didn’t look like the ones I have, so I began to read the whole package and realized these are not from Starbucks. I honestly don’t trust this brand, and who knows if this is actually Starbucks Coffee.
