Had to squeeze handles together tight to grip lid but simplifies the opening process. Can't tell you how many times I've dreaded having to open all new items whether it be jars or bottles. Granted, jars can be tapped w/ butter knife around the edge or on cabinet tapping in a circular motion though soda bottles had become my worst nightmare. Can't mention all the cuss words I've used in the past (due to Amazon community rules), but let's just say they were not pretty. Anyway, lightweight, easy to use & worked well.
