Instinct Limited Ingredient Diet, Natural Wet Cat Food, Grain Free Recipe - Real Turkey, 5.5 Ounce (Pack of 12)

The ingredient list on this, is fabulous, just perfect, healthy, real stuff. But, my cat will NOT eat it. Even if i mix her other, tastier food in with this? she still won't eat it. I waited 3 days, trying to "force" her to eat it, but, i gave in and gave her back her lousier food. My search for the best cat food continues. So far, my cat IS liking almost all of the various flavors of that BFF series of cat food, so that will probably be it for now, it has good ingredients ---but not as good as this here LImited ingredient cat food, but, if my cat won't eat It? then it is back to BFF brand cat food.

Our cat had a pelvic injury prior to adoption which caused a blockage 6 months after adoption, had to get anesthesia and a manual "clean out" at 1.5yr old, apparently the pelvic fracture makes him prone to constipation. Different vet said to give fiber but seems like bulk would not help his situation because the colon and rectum is too small. Read about low residue, this food is the closest low residue NONPRESCRIPTION diet. I just make sure to add extra water to it so he doesn't get dehydrated from miralax. But it's definitely this food bc while slowly transitioning him from fancy feast to this, a miscommunication caused him to go backwards in transition (higher ratio FF/LID) and his constipation flared right back up again. Now he's been steady on just the LID and its proven to be miraculous. I can tell how much better it is just by how much easier it rinses out of the bowl! The Fancy feast would stick like glue to the bowl and required scrubbing in steaming hot water and soap. This stuff rinses right out, and even if it's caked on and dried out it still slides right out with hot water alone - no scraping necessary. I figure that must be at least part of what's going on in his intestines. For cats w/ pelvic injury history/megacolon & chronic constipation this is worth a try. It worked for us. No more vet or home given enemas! No more scooting his butt across the floor! I just wish they would come out with food like this for me lol.

HORRIBLE cat food: caused severe struvite crystals and huge vet bills Our cats story: After several exams and some testing, our vet told us she thought our cats had food allergies and recommended an elimination diet. We researched options and started our cats on the Dick Van Patten LID foods in June 2017. They hated the food and were barely eating. We gradually switched the cats to Instinct LID Turkey cat food in July/August 2017. The cats LOVED the taste of the wet and dry. We were really careful with their diet and even eliminated all treats. The cats were only eating LID Turkey food from August until two weeks ago (early December 2017). Initially their coats improved and their weight stabilized. But we noticed that each case of wet food we received from Amazon was different; some cans were very light in color with orange gel around the food and others were very dark in color with a thick gravy. Instinct didn't seem to have their product consistency settled, but the cats were doing well so we kept feeding them the LID. In late November (4.5 months after starting LID food), we started seeing problems. The cats were developing bald patches again and were eating less (they were rejecting the canned Instinct LID but were still eating the dry). In early December, they starting refusing all food, we saw blood in the litterbox, and immediately made vet appointments. After some testing, we were horrified to learn that both cats (a male and a female) had very severe cases of struvite crystals in their urine and one had a high fever and secondary infection. The cats had eaten nothing but this food for months and now were terribly sick with something that can only be caused by their diet. So while we initially liked this food and felt it benefited our allergy-prone cats, now we would NEVER recommend anyone feed it to their cats. After 2 weeks of vet visits, serious health scares, beloved pets in obvious pain, and $2500 in vet bills, we are telling everyone to AVOID THIS FOOD. Almost every case of the wet food has a different color and consistency, so we don't think this company has their production or sourcing properly arranged. And whatever is in this food really harmed our cats.

I bought this specific food after reading several articles about the healthiest food for your cat. I’ve recently adopted an almost 2 year old cat from the shelter and I wanted to start off right with healthy food. He doesn’t necessarily like the flavor, but he eats it. I haven’t found any bone fragments like some are saying, but also I would like to remind you that cats eat bones... so I’m not too worried about it. So he’s not too enthusiastic, but he’s very healthy, with a shiny coat. It’s doing it’s job! I think I’ll switch to the non limited ingredient Natures Variety. They have more flavors available and I think he might prefer those over this one. Overall I love that it’s healthy for him! I just wished that he loved it more!

She's the pickiest eater I've ever seen, but took to this food immediately! I switched her over gradually about 2 years ago after she developed allergies and asthma. She's now on steroids every single day. We think it was from the popular national brand food. The fact I dumbly switched to the corn litter could have helped play a part, too. That, and the horror stories of tainted food made us switch. So glad we did. She is like a kitten again! We play tag and the staring game again. Her coat is shiny and less dander. We are happier all around. She still has to take her meds every day, but her attacks are much fewer and her energy is up. Her faves are the turkey and chicken. Beef is a close third. The other varieties don't interest her too much, but she will eat them once in awhile. Plus, the price is generally much better here than in the big box store. Hope it stays that way!

My cat isn't a picky eater, but she didn't seem to care for this flavor. Although, she's occasionally put off by the lamb as well, so I might try it again. The only flavor she consistently likes is duck. The most expensive, naturally. As for the food in general, I think it's really helped improved her health. She still has issues (many, many issues) but she's perkier and her coat is beautiful. She also eats wet food at a much better pace than dry food. There were many stomach upsets after she gulped down too much kibble too fast. I really like this food for her and I don't care to switch, but I wish I'd known ahead of time that there are chunks of veggies in it. I stir her food up a lot anyway, so I'm usually able to remove the peas and carrots (and she's good about eating around them), but they really serve no purpose here. If they are there for fiber, they could easily be blended into the mix. Otherwise, cat's don't need veggies. They're carnivores! So if you're looking for a natural wet food where you don't have to put in a lot of effort at feeding time, I'd look at something else.

My cat is very limited on the proteins he can tolerate, and turkey is the one he has no issues with. He is feed a homemade raw diet with a completer. Occasionally I feed him canned food. He LOVES this Instinct Limited Ingredient Turkey and has no tummy issues. I love the ingredients and feel good about feeding him this brand. I have reviewed many other top name brands and find this one seems to have the best limited ingredients on the market.

I went on the Natural Cat care blog and researched the healthiest foods to feed my kitten. We first tried Tiki cat canned chicken and at first she would eat it but then decided, "nope, not gonna eat this". I wrote to another brand on the list of best foods and they wouldn't send me a sample. I wanted something I could buy locally and just try before ordering a case! Petco had this food by single cans. I bought 1 each of the duck, lamb and turkey. My now 7 month old kitten liked all of them but will eat an entire 3.5 oz can of the turkey in one sitting! The turkey is also considerably cheaper than the duck or lamb. Our local Pet Supplies Plus will price match if I order a case from them but the amazon price for the turkey was the best I found and easy enough to order this when I need something else to qualify for the free shipping with a $35 order. There is controversy about the special clay in the ingredients but with all the research I did it seems not harmful and possibly beneficial in removing toxins. Bottom-line she is actually eating it more than her beloved Origen kibble (on the best dry foods list) and a predominantly wet food diet is healthier for cats.

My cat has been eating Instinct LID turkey 5.5oz cans for more than half a year. It helped her get recover from itchy skin. When we presented her these smaller 3oz cans, she refused to take it. Not a single lick. We noticed that the cans had some dents (as like the big cans), but there was no leak, so we presume the contents are not compromised. The contents smelled a little different from the bigger cans; smelled more like pork ?! Other than that, the consistency of the pate was fine. Very disappointed that my cat wouldn’t eat these smaller cans at all. It’s such a waste of food to throw it away night after night.
