With Soul of the Forest, Maison Margiela did an amazing job of replicating the scent and vibe of a pine forest.On first whiff, it transported me back to my trip hiking through Redwood National Park. It evokes memories of towering evergreen trees, damp moss, ferns, cool, fresh air and misty morning fog.From the opening, this scent is dominated by very fresh and natural smelling evergreen and moss notes, with a faint sweetness underneath, which smooths it out and prevents it from being harsh or acrid.The character of this fragrance remains pretty consistent for the entire wear, with only the absolutely faintest hint of incense detectable after 3 or 4 hours of wear.I apply 4-6 sprays when I wear it and it is noticeable, but never overwhelming.Projection is decent, at around 6 feet or slightly more for the first 2 or 3 hours, slowly decreasing until it becomes a more intimate scent bubble, after around 5 or 6 hours. At the end of the day (8-10 hours), it sits very close to the skin and would only be noticed by someone hugging or nuzzling you.I consider Soul of the Forest to be a classic, masculine and natural scent, best suited for men. It has a very lumberjack, mountain man feel to it. That’s not to say a woman couldn’t wear it, but it does not seem feminine to me.It is very good for all seasons, particularly spring and fall and can be worn day and night. Though in very cold weather, I would imagine the scent bubble will diminish in size, unless more fragrance is applied.The black gradient coloration of the bottle looks quite nice. The bottle material is simple and sturdy.The crinkly silver label looks interesting, but can be a bit hard to read, not that it really matters, as long as you can distinguish it from other fragrances in the line.The atomizer does a decent job of putting out a sufficient amount of spray with each pump.

This fragrance is part of Maison Margiela’s Replica line, and honestly, it lives up to its name. It’s rich, mysterious, and beautifully grounded, a scent that feels alive with nature.The opening hits with a fresh, slightly sharp green burst, a beautifully captivating mix of black currant, moss, and pimento that smells like wet foliage and cut grass. It’s earthy like a forest floor. As it settles, the heart brings in balsam fir and labdanum, which introduce a resinous, pine-like warmth. There’s also a soft sweetness that rounds the scent out nicely. In the dry down, you experience a smoky, woody base that lingers beautifully on skin. It’s unisex but leans slightly masculine, I'd say because of the green, aromatic notes. Performance wise, it’s strong enough to make an impression without being overpowering, and it lasts well into the night. Personally, I find it perfect for cooler weather or evening wear, but if you love deep, green, woody fragrances, you could definitely pull this off during the day too. For me, this one is a standout in the Replica line, dark, grounded, and quietly bold. It truly captures the soul of a forest.

This is a pretty good one. Got on a great sale. Much cheaper than Sephora and Macys etc. Only issue I have is it really just smells like that old green bottle from polo. It's cool. I just would have gotten the polo if I had known. It's great to have in the rotation and the scent sticks around long enough and smells nice as it fades

Maison Margiela made an amazing scent with this Soul of Forest. This is a large, heavy bottle with 3.4 Fl Oz and I found the value for money to be worth every penny. I have been using this for a few days now and I really am impressed with how complex this smell is. I love the longevity of this authentic fragrance. I usually apply a few sprays and that left the scent on my skin and clothes into the next day. This scent is great for fall or spring. I really like how this scent can be worn day or night. This scent really did an amazing job trying to copy the natural forest smell. The smooth notes of cedarwood and moss are what makes this truly unique fragrance. I received many compliments with this scent from while being at the office at work or at a restaurant at night for some drink. I really like the glass bottle it comes in and love the dark color to the bottle. The spray is smooth and even and is easy to work. I also recently tried layering scents with other Maison Margiela fragrances and layering this particular one was a fantastic idea. This is one of my favorite scents by Maison Margiela and I would highly recommend it.

I’ve tried many from the Replica line, and this is one of the few that feels like an everyday scent while others feel very situation-dependent. I’m not a fragrance head, but I’ve always looked for scents that are unique, and this strikes that balance while still being a crowd pleaser.On the first spray, I got a tart, sweet, feminine opening that almost made me think it wasn’t unisex at all. It settled quickly into something slightly more masculine-leaning with the other notes starting to come through. While I can’t pick out individual notes, it feels like something a prince of the forest would wear. Very natural and nothing about it smells cheap or like a car freshener.They really did capture the scent of a forest, and it is no surprise why so many love it. I debated removing a star because while the longevity is solid (about 4-5 hours on skin, 8 on clothing), it doesn’t project much. That seems to be a theme with MM scents. Part of me likes how intimate it is, but at this price you almost want more presence. I personally enjoy layering it with something that does project, which creates a deeper, more complex smell up close.All that being said, this is a wonderful scent that feels unique and truly transports you.

Finally found a fragrance that has a wonderful scent and last. My husband has always worn different fragrances but for years we have just gone through every different kind we can find and the bottle just sits because we don’t like them. The last one we bought the scent didn’t even last before we left our house for work. When this arrived my husband opened it and put it on right away and when I walked out into the garage I said wow I smell a nice warm woodsy scent, he said I like it and I said me too I love it, and the best part it lasted almost the whole day. Every time he walked near me I could smell it and he was working outside in it. When our son came over and ask what my husband was wearing he said I got to get me some of that. We live out in the country and spend a lot of time in the woods but that doesn’t compare to the great scent of this Soul of the forest. I was surprised at the size of the bottle for the price. Nice size bottle that brings warmth and beauty all around. Very happy with this I love the way my husband smells. And now he doesn’t leave the house without it. We will definitely purchase more. And it comes with a cap so we can take it with us.

This was foresty but in a kind of bitter, damp undergrowth kind of way. Definitely smell before buying or you will have a whole lot of it if you don't like it. Bathroom deodorizer?

I bought this blind based on notes description. Maison Margiela no longer makes my favorite fragrance Music Festival. At first I was a little disappointed, but the more I wear it the more I like it. It is a subtle, not overpowering. I am happy that it was on sale. I do not love it enough to pay full price.
