From an engineering stand point I think the helical cutting head has advantages.Good luck! **Q: Does it snipe** A: If your bites for each pass are not deep, I have not noticed snipe. For long boards, support at the exit is also important. I use a roller support at the end for long boards, take light cuts each pass and my results are excellent. Some planers have 2 speeds, high speed for a smoother finish.
