It's the type of leather where you scratch it it will rub off with a rub from your finger. Even the tpu case is actually sewn instead of glued in to the folio case it self. I appreciate the detailed and solid craftsman ship of this case. You cannot beat the price of something of this quality. The standup feature is the biggest thing that doesn't work as advertised as my phone ends up falling flat on its butt. The space for the ID is also a very tight fit and can be very difficult to get out if you ever need to get your ID out. The leather is great and definitely of great quality. I've had my case for a few months and it has suffer d zero degradation in quality.
