Has anyone tried this to store their Whirly balance board?

Not familiar with that. You do have to have trucks on the board for it to work.

Does it work for dog town cruisers and long boards?

The only way the stand would hold the board is in a horizontal position. It is really made for street decks in the vertical position. We will soon have the new design 4UP for sale. It holds 4 boards of all lengths and is on a lazy Susan turn plate.

Whats the difference between doing this and simply leaning it against the wall?

Leaning the skateboard against the wall can 1) damage the wall, 2) leave dirty marks on the wall, and 3) become a trip hazard should it fall over.
