This mat is only 2" too wide for my desk. Is it ok to cut off some from an end to fit? Will that effect how it works?

For anybody wondering, this material is meant to be cut. Shops and labs usually buy massive rolls (for a massive price) and cut it down to fit the bench.

Do you need to use the eyelet cord or does the snap provide sufficient ground with the wrist strap?

The wrist strap connects you to the mat but, the mat itself should be grounded via the other wire.

I need a desk pad this exact size and it's a hard size to find. Does this surface perhaps work well for using a laser mouse on it?

The surface of these mats are similar to some mouse pads, so maybe: some mouse pads work better than others for optical vs. roller ball & vice versa.
