The real trick is to make sure you are set to use ramping when carving a stamp. Without the ramping the edges don't cut cleanly, which is counterintuitive, but it works. Settings will, of course, be different for different machines, and multiple passes reduces burn, but if you have a laser engraver you should already know this. All I can say is that even my 10w diode laser was more than powerful enough to make nice stamps.
