This is the first time I've actually purchased a bread knife for myself. All my others have been hand me downs. So at least for what I'm comparing this too it seems like comparing a samurai sword to a butter knife. It's incredibly sharp and cut's bread without making a bunch of crumbs. I also appreciate the felt lined sheathe! It also looks really nice, only time will tell how well it holds up but so far so good!

I have Shun knives for my kitchen but did not see need to spend $170 on a bread knife. This looks and feels great and does the job perfectly. Good value. I also have the 12 inch slicing knife by Kyoku and that one is awesome.

Winner winner, bread cutting dinner. Totally solid, non-bread crush knife. The real deal.

It is a great knife for the price if you want to slice pain de mies and pullmans. If you want to cut thick crusted hearth breads and sourdough loaves, you need to spend more money and pick up a knife that has a larger + wavier tooth pattern, something more scalloped. I picked this knife up because it is gorgeous and photographs well, but using it destroys the above mentioned breads. Also, when attempting to slice these breads, the tooth pattern makes the cutting motion quite unstable and dangerous. I ended up picking up a Shun 9" Classic knife at a Black Friday discount for $140--this is such an amazing knife and well worth the $169 regular price.
