Fixed: Tear Prone Straps
EDIT #2: I received the replacement backpack from OneTigris. It definitely appears to be an updated bag construction with noticeably more durable straps and canvas. Thank you OneTigris for you attention to customer concerns. I highly recommend this product to the dog-adventurers out there! EDIT: OneTigris reached out to me about my experience with the backpack as shown below. I explained to them what had happened and they have offered to ship a replacement. They also assured me that they have corrected this problem in manufacturing and that the new bag would be more durable. I will update this review once I get to try out the new backpack. My dog is excited too! This was a great backpack until the straps starting breaking off. I had read in other reviews about the durability of this product which caused me to spring and purchase this "backpack" for my 80-pound hound mix. Upon the first few uses I was enthralled with the product. It has great capacity for dog and human baggage and the material is a classic olive drab which also matches some of my hiking gear. I thought I had finally found the dog pack that was practical and good-looking. Unfortunately, upon the 4th and 5th uses (by uses, I mean long walks with gear, 1-2 hours) the straps started to tear off from the actual bag, essentially making the bag useless. Maybe I could convert it to a bike pannier... but at this point it just sits. What a waste for a product with high potential. This might be a product for a dainty small dog around the neighborhood, but I don't see it being used for hikes, heavy gear, or big dogs; the straps will simply not endure. And what is a backpack without straps? I will be contacting the seller to attempt and reconcile this purchase. (photos of damage to come)

Best pack you’ll find for large dogs
I bought this pack years ago for my 130 lb mastiff. At the time, this was the only pack I could find that would fit her measurements. It’s been through rain, snow, heat, and is now on it’s 2nd dog. That’s right, this pack outlasted my mastiff, and is now being used by our very chonky 100 lb German shepherd/bulldog mix. Although there was nothing wrong with this pack, at some point I decided we should upgrade to a pack with larger panniers and a more weatherproof fabric. The search only left me frustrated and thankful for the pack we have. I now realize how lucky we were to find this wonderful pack, and at such a bargain price. Yes, I wish the bags were larger. As is, my dog can carry 2 liters of water, 4 days of food, treats, poo bags, hand sanitizer and his food & water bowls. On day trips we sometimes skip the human pack and make the dog carry our ten essentials plus lunch for two. This pack will not fit a dog sleeping bag, unless we tie it to the top. My exhaustive search of dog backpacks has not found a better alternative with larger bags or tie downs. This pack adjusts to fit a very, very large dog, and unlike other packs, the saddle bags hang completely off to the sides, even on a very barrel-chested animal. The canvas material is so durable I think it may outlast this dog as well and end up being used by a third animal. The downside of canvas is it is a little funky when wet, and it does not dry quickly. We live in the Pacific Northwest where moisture is a part of our lives 3 seasons of the year. Not surprisingly, the pack retains some wet dog smell. Luckily though, it holds up well to washing. Since our dog also smells like wet dog when he crawls into our tent after hiking through rain or snow, I have made my peace with it. I can’t remember how many years ago we bought this dog backpack but in that amount of time I’ve gone through 2 daypacks myself and my son grew from a little kid to a man. All the zippers and connectors are still in excellent condition. 2022 Update: According to Amazon, I bought this pack in September 2018. It is now March 2022. The tabs that attach the neck strap to the pack have finally given out. I plan to repair and keep using it. Seriously rugged. Buy it.

Good Looking, Nice Design, but Way Too Flimsy
We took our 50ish lb goldendoodle on several hikes with this pack. It fit her well, sat nicely, and looked great. However, as others have commented, the stitching/quality is just not good. It fell apart on our third or fourth hike halfway through. The seams just came undone and it barely held together until the end of the hike. This is close to a good product so I think it warrants 3 stars but the quality really needs to be improved. Edit: Updated to 4 stars. OneTigris contacted me and sent me an updated version. The quality is improved in a few ways. Most notably: * Stitching seems better * Pockets seem more durable and there are more of then including an ID card transparent sleeve. * Mesh padding inside which definitely seems more comfortable for the pooch and helps keep the pack in place. However, a couple things that were included in the original were removed which kinda sucks: * No D ring on the back. It's an issue for on leash hiking. * No handle on top. This is a problem on difficult scrambles where I need to assist my dog or if I have to hold her back from chasing a squirrel or something. Overall this is a pretty decent pack. There are better but this is about 85% of the way there. Other than the two cons I mentioned I really like the pack and for now it'll continue to be my go to.

Very well-made product, Excellent Fit.
Product Qualities This is a very sturdy, well-made product. The canvas has some heft to it and is a nice heavy weight. No issues with the stitching. I like the oversize zipper pulls as well. It should serve well in winter with gloves on etc. Although we just got ours the other day, we've already put in about 10 miles with it in different types of terrain. We followed some washed out creek beds, went up and down steep embankments, through thick brush, hardwood stands, and open easy going trails. The pack excelled in all areas. The pack does not shift at all. It stays right where it should centered on his back. I will say this though, i had equal weight on both sides (canned goods). Behavioral Benefits My dog didn't exhibit any signs of discomfort, no tugging or pulling etc. He didn't even look back at it after the first 50 feet or so. In fact, he seemed more focused while wearing it and definitely became more of a follower. He is trained to walk on my left side and not to walk ahead of me but from time to time has a tenancy to become distracted and drift about a foot further than he should. He didn't need to be reminded one single time while wearing the pack. The affect of "having a job" produced a quite remarkable improvement in his focus. Fit My dog is an Airedale Terrier and is quite deep in the chest with a slim waist and a slender neck so i had some concerns as to whether or not it would fit correctly. The adjustment is maxed out on his waist and nearly maxed out on his chest. neck is fine. I wanted to add some photos with measurements for reference to help others that may be considering this pack. I know there are photos of a dog in the product page, but they don't tell you anything about the dog. My dog stands 24" at the shoulder and his chest is 29" in diameter measured across the shoulder blades and just behind his armpits. He weighs 56 lbs. He's only 2 and probably has some filling out to do, so the extra length on the straps is a good thing. Final Thought I use a martingale collar situated just behind the ears and jawline for all of our excursions, training sessions, etc. I did not use the ring on top of the pack the pack and truth be told, I wouldn't try to use this as a harness. I'd likely just buy a proper harness for that. We currently don't do any activities that require him to walk in front of me (scent tracking, sled pulling etc.). So we only tested it with him walking along side me. Bottom line, It's clearly designed to be a backpack, not a harness. For those interested in being dragged behind their dog by a harness, you may want to explore other products.

Awesome, durable, must-have dog accessory
I am a huge outdoors person and I try to take my dogs everywhere permitted. This backpack has been unbelievably useful to the point that it's basically a necessity now (if this one ever breaks I will get another one). This has been so awesome for camping specifically. My dog carries all of her own stuff, such as her food, her water bowl, her waste bags, a toy, her protective goggles, etc. She actually LOVES it, she loves to be included and carry a backpack just like her humans, it gives her a sense of purpose on our backpacking trips especially. You can actually see the excitement on her face when you grab the pack to put it on her and she stands there all nice and patiently for it. The pack actually seems quite comfortable. It doesn't seem to shift too much when you balance it appropriately and doesn't rub on her skin anywhere, and it's made of high quality material. We climb mountains with this thing and it holds up perfectly. The zippers are heavy duty and the D rings are actually made of metal and not plastic. The storage compartments and pockets are perfect in every way. If there are any disc golfers out there, get yourself one of these and a well behaved dog that will follow you around during your games (one that knows the difference between frisbees and discs!) and you have the perfect, adorable caddy that will net you lots of impressed remarks! And the dog loves it!

Works well to add a little weight to tire out the dog.
I have a 75 pound Doberman who is athletic and has a LOT of energy to burn. I got this pack in hopes that this would be a good way for her to not only carry her own items for hikes and long walks, but also as a way to add a little weight to her in order to tire her out faster. Dobermans are also apart of the "Working Class" breed and having a "job" can really also help with behavioral issues, which I've found to be true so far. After having this pack for a better of about 6 months I have to say I've been really impressed with it. I could have spent a lot more money on some really fancy packs but we don't go on super long hikes or walks ALL the time so I just needed something to that would be good for a Saturday or Sunday hike/walk. On average we use this pack about once or twice a week, so we aren't super hard on it but it's held up really solidly and we have yet to have ANY issues. There are no holes or tears or fraying and all the buckles and zippers still work like the first day we got it. When we started out with training I only put the empty pack on her because I didn't want to add additional stress to my growing dog. But now that she's full-grown we put full water bottles and any of her poop bags and other supplies we might need for a hike. Having a bag with a little added weight not only tires her out faster, but we really do notice an improved behavior with her attitude on walks. She's a good-natured dog and very attentive to our commands already, but when she sees me get the pack she stops and lets me saddle her up like a horse. She stays very still and is very patient with me tightening the buckles and getting everything put inside, she LOVES to carry her pack and tends to "prance" a lot more when she's got it on like she's doing something super important. Overall this was a great investment, I haven't noticed any rubbing or anything on longer hikes but I'm also super careful to keep each side of the pack evenly balanced, that's very important otherwise the pack will go lopsided. I also make sure the straps aren't too tight or too loose and often check them throughout the hike to make sure nothing has come undone. This pack is NOT waterproof so if there is something inside the pockets you don't want submerged then I don't suggest letting your dog swim with it on or anything. You could easily add some sort of water repellent to the material for rainy days but we don't keep anything inside that we worry about getting wet and it's a canvas material so it does try pretty easily if you open it all up and leave it out.

Great Little Backpack
My 75 lb Malamute puppy just hit the minimum measurements for the girth for this backpack and it fits perfectly. I keep it pretty loose and I have no issues with it tilting unless there's a leash attached. He runs around at full speed and it still stays put. It is weird that I have the belly/chest straps on very small settings but for the neck strap I have it at the largest setting even though he's in the middle for the neck measurement. If I had it much tighter the chest strap would be pulled forward and dig into his front legs more. A dog with little/no "armpit" fur might experience some chafing from this pack. The material seems tough and has been easy to spot clean so far. It dries overnight and hasn't gotten creek stench even when my dog has. I went against some reviewers' advice and attached the leash to the harness. My pup doesn't pull terribly but he did lunge after a squirrel and there was no damage to the backpack. Even so I prefer to thread the leash through the rings and attach the clip to his collar. It helps keep his long leash from getting under his legs when it's loose or dragging. I bought the black nylon version to compare the two. I preferred the style of this one, especially since my dog is not a service dog and I wouldn't want him to be mistaken for one. I also preferred the handle and that the side pockets are open. It makes it a lot easier to reach in for a poop bag real quick. I did like that the nylon one is padded where it sits on the dog, though. This seems like a nicely made little backpack that will be perfect for short day hikes. You won't be able to carry a ton in it but it will fit the necessities (bags, a little water and food) just fine. Plus you'll have the most stylin' dog on the trail!

So far, so good. But...
I got these packs a couple weeks ago for my dogs. My hubby and I love to back back camp, but decided it was time for our 5 yr old golden retriever & 4 yr old Vizsla to carry their own gear. After a long search we decided on these bc of the rvws. We have not field tested them yet, as the weather just turned nice & we haven't gone on our first camping trip just yet. I'll update if my opinions change after the field test. (For a TLDR- go to bottom of rvw) PRODUCT/QUALITY RVW: 1. The material is a sturdy, thick fabric. I would compare it to high quality carpentry pants. The stitching appears to be quality and reinforced. 2. There are three straps that give three points of contact...in my opinion this is to distribute the weight of the pack along the dogs back. 3. There are two large pockets on either side. One pocket is open with a simple clasp for quick access and sits on the outside of a zippered pocket. The zipper appears to also be high quality. 4. The handle along the back is large and can fit just about any size hand. Its large arch, I find, easily allows owner to hold on to the dog if a leash isnt an option. 5. There are two rings to attach a lease or tether. One in the front of the pack by the neck and one in the back near the waist. Plus there are two more rings attack to the straps on the outside unsecured strap. (Not sure what I'd use those for...but could be useful) PRACTICALLY RVW: 1. Recent vet visit confirms my dogs weight. My VZ (Vizsla) is 47lbs & my GR (golden retriever) is 51lbs. I got these packs bc they were rated for medium to large dogs. 2. On the GR, the pack fits well....JUST well. The neck strap is great. Chest strap good. Waist strap...problematic because it cuts way to close to his male parts and I think this bothers him bc he's now less inclined to obey commands (like sit, lay down, wait). 3. On my VZ - this pack simply does NOT fit. I have the straps as tight as it will go and the pack is loose. It doesnt shift, but I think with some weight on it, it might slip or at minimum cause chaffing. 4. The straps are toooooo long. I understand that there is going to be excess when adjusting is needed. But because of the "one size fits all", at the smallest adjustment the straps drag the ground. >> I've compensated for this by knotting the straps. But the longer my dogs wear the pack, the straps un-knot and drag. BC of the above issues I deducted 2 stars. But gave 3 for quality of manufacturing. MY RECOMMENDATION: Do not buy if your dog is under 50lbs. OR if your dog is slim in stature. This pack will not fit them. If your dog is around or above 50lbs &/or is stocky...this is going to be a VERY nice pack for them. >>END<< TLDR: So far, the quality of manufacturing seems to be very good. I'm pleased with the durability of the material used and simplistic design. Three stars for quality. However I would not recommend for dogs under 50lbs or slim in stature as this "one size fits all" design is NOT conducive for smaller dogs or dogs that are narrow bodied. The adjustable straps will not tighten enough and then the straps will drag. Thats the 2 star deduction. But for larger dogs, I think this backpack will be a good addition.

Good Quality Stitching
The straps are soft and there are no pieces of fabric that stick out to irritate my dogs skin. Which is important to me as I have a short hair breed dog with sensitive skin. Sizing is true to product description.

Good Product
Really good fit for my GSD. Still has plenty of room for normal walking and running movements.

Function and Fashion in equal measures!
My medium-size Welsh Collie has worn his for eight months now, so I felt that was adequate time to test and post a short review based on long-term use by a working dog. The Fit Measurements are accurate and the sizing gauge is pretty good. I did find I had to alter the female ends of the belly straps to get a sufficiently secure fit as well as tidying away the loose male ends, but the latter is more an old Army habit. This fit will obviously vary with different diameter dogs and my Collie is quite lean. The length is good, the neck adjustment perfect. The bags sit high enough to avoid fouling the dog's legs and forward enough that he can maintain balance. The Construction When you first unpack them, the saddlebags actually feel quite light and you start to wonder if they're actually cheap tat... But the stitching is solid and the canvas is of definite quality, which just means it won't especially burden your dog. I've had normal dog coats that weigh more. The zips are both secure and smooth in operation, the seams do not strain when loaded, the main compartment linings are a nice touch. I think the best aspect of these is actually the soft flexibility of the bags, though, since that adds to the comfort for the dog and lets them work without impediment. The Carrying Capacity This is probably the most subjective aspect to these saddlebags as a lot depends on your dog's own capabilities, the load you require him or her to carry and especially your ability to balance your packing. Our Collie typically carries two 500ml water bottles (one either side), a collapsible water bowl, his lead, some treats, a lightweight microfibre towel (for wet dogs and muddy paws), poo bags, a doggie jumper/pullover and a lightweight jumper or cardigan for the Mrs. That's about 2kg, give or take and there's still room for ancillaries. Performance With 2-4 kg of weight, my Collie is still easily free to bound around the fields and up the hills with almost no perceptible hindrance to his gait. He loves being given the duty of carrying our most valuable possessions (ie, The Treats!!) and every time I get the vest out he knows we'll be out for the whole glorious day! You will have to remember that your dog is now wider and better placed to knock into things/people, as he will certainly forget! As mentioned above, the vest load does need to be balanced, as even a half-kilo will see it fall lopsided. It may also go without saying, but lightweight canvas will *not* be 100% waterproof - Showers and light rain have not proven an issue, but all day out in heavy rain, or a good dunking while swimming across the river may dampen things just a bit... unless you thought to put things in plastic bags first, of course! Mud is best left to dry before being brushed off, while more ingrained dirt can be hand-washed out. Lay the vest out flat and let it air-dry. The Customer Service For the UK market, OneTigris kit is mostly stocked and fulfilled by Amazon.co.uk. This means very fast delivery, often arriving next day. It also means simple and easy returns, if you need to exchange on sizes, colours or something. OneTigris themselves are very friendly and open as well as keeping a close watch on their product pages, so if you have any problems, questions or perhaps even a custom requirement they do respond to feedback and direct contact, as well as being very active on the various social media sites. Any Cons? The only criticism I can find for this is the D-rings, on the ends of the straps that secure the outer pockets. They are heavy and can catch on low branches or dog leads, pulling the pockets open. Summary My dog is already a happy, handsome lad... but wherever we go, be it out working, going hiking, camping, to a show or just through town, his saddlebags are forever catching peoples' attention - Seriously, they love seeing him as much as he loves being seen and remarks on his attire range from 'clever' to 'cute', 'gorgeous' and especially 'awesome'. It's a little weird, but even visiting Bath last month, we had more than one person asking if they could take a photo! To sum up - A fantastic product that serves its purpose very well and is very typical of the quality and features present in OneTigris outdoor kit. Highly recommended and I'd buy this again in a heartbeat... Luckily I have two other dogs to spoil!
