Is there a way for it to stay on rather than timing out?

Hello, thank you for your question. If you use ewan's cry sensor mode, he will continuously re-activate and play one of his 5 soothing sounds for 20 minutes until your child falls asleep. However, over the past 12+ years since ewan was first released, we have usually found that the overwhelming majority of babies and toddlers settle down and fall asleep within this 20 minute period, hence why he has an automatic shut off to help preserve battery life. Does it only activate to crying? What about other noises that happen in the room?

Hello, thank you for your question. Unlike the majority of other products on the market which include a sound sensor that activates to any noise, Ewan has been designed with a cry sensor which specifically listens out for crying sounds for activation. I hope this helps :)

Is there a way your supposed to turn on the cry sensor? I cant find it or it just doesn't work.

Hello, thank you for your question. To activate the cry sensor press and hold the main button on the pod for 3 seconds, you should hear 1 single beep - this signifies that the sensor is switched ON and ewan is listening. The smart cry sensor will listen out for your baby for 4 hours. If your baby stirs then ewan will activate your chosen sound. Once your baby has settled he will listen again for another 4 hours and so on. If your baby does not stir within 4 hours, the smart cry sensor will deactivate. To de-activate the smart cry sensor, press and hold the button again for 3 seconds, this time you should hear 3 simultaneous beeps - this signifies that the sensor is switched off and ewan is NOT listening.
