Q: How long does one bag last?

The bag is huge! It lasts us approx 3 months. We have a large cage for our hamster and only need to change it every two weeks, we also use it for our bunny's litter box which is emptied 3X week and uses about 3 cups of the litter each time. This stuff is great! Doesn't stick to the hamster's fur like the aspen shavings did, which always meant shavings on the floor every time someone took the hamster out. Also we haven't had any problems with mites using the paper litter but had big time mite problems with the wood shavings.

Q: is this better at absorbing ammonia than a paper substrate like carefresh?

So much better. I use a puppy pad under it for the rabbits and guinea pigs. Then I sprinkle some baking soda on that and then add about an inch thick layer of fresh news on top. It works fine without the pad and baking soda, but it last so much longer with it.

Q: Is this litter scented? Does it come unscented?

I would not consider it scented.
