Excellent valve - read the installation instructions
This valve is quite good. Feels very solid, and with the Trim my wife picked out, it looks great. There are a few things people should know:This valve can be installed in either a 2-way or 3-way mode (caveat for 2-way mode, see below). After reading several reviews on several different websites, I thought I knew what the end result would be, but I was wrong. Hopefully the descriptions below help others figure out the different installation configurations and how they determine the end functionality. In 3-way mode, the handle spins 360+ degrees (keeps going/no stops) and with pause positions (handle clicks) every 45 degrees, for a total of 6 positions. The 6 positions are A; A+B; B; B+C; C; C+A which means you can have any of the three outputs on individually, or any pair, but not all three. The handle can be adjusted so that the stops are perfectly aligned, contrary to reports that the valve must be installed perfectly straight otherwise things will be misaligned. In 2-way mode, you have several options.1) Follow the instructions.Sounds crazy, but definitely your best option. You need to remove an internal plug that separates output A from C which means that output A=C and C=A (see http://helptopics.us.kohler.com/link/portal/5641/5712/Article/1070/How-To-Remove-The-Plug-On-The-K-728-Transfer-Valve). You then cap-off/plug either output A or C. The instruction guide (see http://www.us.kohler.com/onlinecatalog/pdf/1145567_2.pdf) then walks you through moving a spacer from behind the detent (the large white plastic piece) to in front of it. This causes the handle to spin only 90 degrees. This results in the valve having only 3 positions: A; A+B; B and will not turn beyond those positions.2) Follow the instructions but skip a few stepsDefinitely an option and how my valve ended up after my remodel was complete. In this case, you still remove the internal plug and link output A and C. But if you don't move the spacer, the valve will continue to spin 360 degrees. Since the A and C output are linked this has the following effect: A; A+B; B; B+A; A; A+A. In my case, there was 1 position were my shower head was on; 2 positions where the shower head and rain head where both on, and 3 positions where my rain head was on. Fortunately; it is easy to move the spacer after everything is installed and you can definitely flip back and forth to see if you like option 1 or option 2 better.3) Ignore everythingSeveral reviews indicate that you can not remove the internal plug and simply cap off one of the ports which gives you an effective off position. In my case this would have resulted in the following functionality shower; shower + rain; rain; rain; off; shower. The instructions specifically don't recommend this for risk of leaks. The output ports aren't specifically designed to be left under pressure long-term. I'm not sure why that would be, and I was willing to take a chance, so this is what I was hoping for. Unfortunately, it didn't happen and the internal plug cannot be replaced with out opening up the wall.So those are your choices. Good luck and you won't regret this valve.

Straightforward and Functional
Purchased this Kohler K-728-K-NA Mastershower 2 or 3-way transfer valve for the Kohler K-9059-CP Contemporary Handshower Kit in a bathroom remodel. Connected the Kohler K-304-KS-NA Rite-Temp Pressure Balancing Valve for the Devonshire fixtures installed and the Mastershower Valve works well through the wall with others. Performs very well and getting appropriate water pressure commensurate with the pressure coming into the home. Straightforward to install. Would order again with a bathroom install or remodel.

I like a lot of water)
I have 3 outputs in my shower (rainhead, standard showerhead and handshower) this valve allows me to select any combination of 2 or any single output on its own. There are 6 positions (rainhead, standard, handshower, rainhead + standard, rainhead + handshower, standard + handshower). While installing, make sure that the default position is calibrated so that the trim points up or in your intended default position. For me up = rainhead + showerhead (yes, I like a lot of water). The build quality of this thing is just insane. It feels like a 5 pound block of brass. It exudes quality and I had no fears or qualms about tiling it in, because this thing will clearly last longer than any current design trends will.

This has 6 selection modes total
the three main positions are also mixed with the next main selection. So this has 6 selection modes total.main1 / main1 & main2 mixed / main 2 / main2 & main3 mixed / main3 / main3 & main1 mixed / but has no off position

Used from factory, very fresh Kohler
So okay, the markings on the back of the brass probably indicate that quality control is not the best or that standards at this factory are perhaps less than they should be. That's fine I've seen better looking but I don't have to look at it. What I am a little disturbed by is the fact that the switching valves that Kohler sells are 3/4 inlet and the mixing valves are 1/2. If you want a mixing valve that exits at 3/4 of an inch so there's no hassle, you have to ante up the big money in excess of $500. But at least the valve itself isn't made out of plastic which I think is real progress. It reminds me of the time in American manufacturing when they would ship things from the factory known to be broken and just have the dealers fix it. Unfortunately I'm not a dealer.

Provides lots of options
I have 3 shower heads (rain, wall, wand) and this vavle lets me do every combination of 2, and each individually (rain, wall, wand, rain and wall, rain and wand, wall and wand) for a total of 6 positions. When putting installing, make sure that the "usual" position is calibrated to match the "default" position you want your valve trim (you probably dont want to the 80% use case to have the valve trim handle point out at 45degrees). This can be adjusted after the fact, but make sure you let your plumber know upfront! Also, for each setting of the above 6 settings there are "locking" positions every 45 degrees (you can feel the handles "click" into place. Make sure when you install the valve is perfectly straight; else the locking positions will be off by a few degrees. It doesnt hurt anything but just "feels" weird. This is not a problem w the valve, but something to look out for when installing.Overall it does exactly what it says, does a great job of splitting the water, and provides tons of options!
