can one of these be used for the top of the microwave where the vent holes are? my current piece is slightly burnt.

non-metal mica sheets allow microwaves to pass through without food/vapors contaminating/damaging the microwave source. most microwave ovens have them. replacing burned ones allow ovens to last longer.

My Whirlpool has a circular plastic plate for a fanguard cover with a 1 in hole burned thru the plastic. Could I use one of these over the hole?

These plate sheets are meant to replace existing damaged guards. You would need to remove the old one, trace it over the new one, cut it and install the new piece. I do not think you should install the new one over the damaged one. Look at videos on youtube or details on the amazon page on the product for instructions.

I need to replace a ge advantium "ceramic" piece about 1" square with a screw hole in the middle. is the mica material strong/stiff?

We traced the shape we needed to replace the piece we needed in our microwave . We were able to cut it with scissors. You have to put a lot of pressure on the scissors to be able to cut it. It fit perfectly and our microwave is running perfectly. We saved purchasing another one.

What is the max temperature that these can be used at?

It is the same thickness as the mica plate you are replacing. Max temperature for mica sheets is way past anything a home microwave can generate.
