It's flimsy, slides all over the place, the tines bend, doesn't cut all the way through the vegetable / fruit and I almost cut myself when I was about halfway through the tomato and the thing slid. Don't believe me? How can it slide while you're holding it? Go ahead buy one, you'll see and be a little poorer like I am. Oh, and after trying 3 different items I threw it in the garbage.

I found this slicer to have some limitations. The hinge is loose to ease getting the tomato inserted. The base has a bit of a curve which may or may not help your slicing. The metal base that your knife hits as you slice down will dull the blade unless care is taken. I did not find it suitable for hard vegetables like an onion. I could see this as an aid for someone who needs to steady a tomato and a guide for the knife when slicing.

I bought this because I grow homegrown tomatoes. I also happen to be horrible at slicing tomatoes. I suggest that you use this with a long, thin, serrated knife. I would not use this with something like a chef knife or santoku knife because you may dull your blade. When paired with the proper thin knife, this thing makes quick work of tomatoes of all sizes! It helps makes the most beautiful slices for things like sandwiches and caprese salads. They are also useful as salad tongs. I like the locking handle, so they can be placed in a drawer without popping open. I am glad I added this handy gadget to my collection of kitchen tools.

What a simple and easy way to cut tomato slices that are the perfect thickness for a burger. It isn't perfect, but for the price...I am loving it! Easy to use, easy to clean. Using a really sharp knife makes cutting a tomato super easy and safe. Didn't think about it until now, but I suppose you could slice just about anything...orange, lemon, etc

This is not made very well. When slicing a tomato, if the tomato is not really small, the knife can't cut through the whole tomato, which leaves it still together on either the top or bottom, depending on which way you are using the holder. The tines are not very sturdy and it is very hard to correctly align the knife blade through the opposite tine. If you use this device where you slicing through the top, when the knife hits the bottom the blade is rubbing against the metal and is dulling the blade.
