This is a gorgeous knife that performs fantastically. It's so sharp there is no tearing, shredding, or effort. It just glides through the bread. It's actually shocking when you first use it. The knife is also gorgeous and comfortable in the hand. No, it isn't cheap, but a blade of this quality is well worth the price. In this case, you really do get what you pay for.

First impression: I’m in love. I’ve gone all-in on baking sourdough and have lamented the performance of my Wusthof bread knife ever since I started this journey 2 years ago. I searched the web far and wide for recommendations and landed on this knife. It is sharp. Ridiculously sharp. I accidentally overcooked my sourdough loaves yesterday, so they were tougher than normal, and this knife practically melted right through them. No squished bread and no sore wrist. I’m not an expert in knives, but this one does what it’s supposed to and feels good in my hand. I’m so glad I bought this thing and think it was worth every penny.

Shun makes an excellent product and the bread knife is the perfect example. It is extremely sharp and consistently cuts the perfect slice from sourdough to delicate fruit bread as long as the operator is up to the challenge. It would be helpful if they included a protective sleeve, but that is not their promise; superior performance is and that it fulfills with perfection.

Beautiful and well made bread knife! Love the look and feel of the hand. Good finish on the blade and very sharp as well, it will definitely cut through any and all kinds of bread.

I am an artisan bread freak for many years and have been frustrated with the run of the mill bread knives that I have used. I do not recall how I came across this knife on Amazon, but I was immediately taken by the artistry of the steel work, so I thought it was worth a try just to have such a beautifully made object to use every day.In practice, the knife is a work of art, but also an extraordinarily functional article as well. The blade is scary sharp as well as incredibly stiff, so it slices through whatever loaf of bread you throw at it with ease. It feels like you're wielding a miniature samurai sword.Needless to say, I feel this was worth every penny and appreciate the craftsmanship every time I use it. How often can you say that?

I just recently discovered the joy of 100% rye bread - very healthy, low-carb, high fiber! The problem is that it’s dense, hard, and difficult to slice (without the right tool). I was using a serrated Shun that I think is meant for slicing meat, and it didn’t work at all on the thick, tough crust of the rye loaf. Enter the Shun bread knife - it really helps to have the right tool for the job. This knife slices through the rye like butter; it makes it easy to make even, thin slices of bread, as the rye is better when sliced thin. Definitely a great knife for dense, hard breads, and I imagine that it would work equally well on a lighter type of bread - very happy!

This is a beautifully crafted bread knife. Sure it cuts as well as any other if not better but it’s just part of my kitchen equipment and other Shun knives and it looks great and is a delight to use. It’s extravagant but it’s also super long lasting and functional. I hate to say it but YES I’d buy it again.
