For years Christiane Northrup M.D., has taught women about heath, wellness, and the miracle of their bodies. Now, in her first children’s book, she presents these ideas to the youngest of girls. Beautiful Girls presents this simple but important message: that to be born female is a very special thing and carries with it magical gifts and powers that must be recognized and nurtured. Dr. Northrup believes that helping girls learn at a young age to value the wonder and uniqueness of their bodies can have positive benefits that will last throughout their lives. By reading this lovely book, little girls will learn how their bodies are perfect just the way they are, the importance of treating themselves with gentle care, and how changes are just a part of growing up. Review: Read this first!!!! Then others as it is positive and gentle! - What a delightful book! And the art is fantastical!!!! We have read and reread and reread Beautiful Girl Celebrating the Wonders of Your Body by Christiane Northrup and this book laid a gentle groundwork for readying the child for Cycling to Grandma’s House. We practice gentle parenting so Beautiful Girl has been a treasure! We started reading it at age 8. And now Cycling to Grandma’s House is treasured as well as the book Moon Mother Moon Daughter by Janet Lucy & Terri Allison, a delightful and empowering book every girl should own, with education on proper self care in the light of our innate body cycles and wisdom. Also, we found the book Malia’s Magnificent Moontime by Angela Shabazz & Kendi Shabazz Muhammad an enlightening and interesting and helpful book as well. Also, the book Reaching for the Moon by Lucy H Pearce was great for the adult to read and reference in assisting our young girls through this life transition, a great book as well. So often we can feel like we are searching in the dark for ways to lift up the next generation and I feel these books I mentioned are an incredible gift to our daughters to help them see so much more than the western society presentation of puberty. Read these books and you will see all you are capable of and much, much more, as well as have a solid base to pass positivity on to our daughters about our precious bodies! Review: Just delightful just beautiful - Beautiful, just lovely and delightful I bought this book for myself and I am 44 It was such a wonderful way to experience how special each of us are as girls and women it touched my heart and helped understand how to appreciate the wonder of being a woman I would highly recommend this book it was a such a lovely way to see my inner child, I found to be a very healing and inspirational experience. I have read it several times marvelled at the art work and written down some of the words in my journal I bought a kindle edition but I am thinking it is such a treasure for my nightstand so I am thinking of purchasing the hard copy too Thank you so much for this outstanding book

A Beautiful Way to Start or Continue Conversations with Your Young Daughters About Being Girls & Becoming Women
This simple illustrated book is a beautiful way to start or continue conversations (not delve into deep explicit explanations - the book leaves that to you as the parent to do) with your young daughters about being girls & becoming women. I have 4 daughters (baby to 9 yo). This book works on several levels as some of it will just go over the heads of the littlest and then you have laid the ground work that is safe and OK to talk with you about these kinds of feelings, questions or concerns whenever the older ones begin to have them. I bought this together with the American Girl book "The Care and Keeping of You: The Body Book for Younger Girls" and think they work well together.

Beautiful book!
This book is excellent and I highly recommend it for all parents of girls. It encourages girls to feel good about their bodies and to trust their feelings when something seems wrong. In real life, this book helped my daughter just last week. She is a first grader and she was playing a game of chase. A boy touched her private area and she told her teacher. She told me she learned that from the book! I've told her many times, yet it took hold through this fine book.

Like having babies
My granddaughter's just turned 6 years old and when I read it to them it brought up some questions and concerns about their bodies. Like having babies...and my granddaughter asked what if I don't want to have a baby what do I do? I think the intention of the book is good but I think the content would be better for an older girl. They loved the artwork and so did I!

Well written and helps build self-esteem!
First of all, I just love Dr Christiane Northrup. She is an OBGYN and an expert in finding "what can go right with women's and girl's bodies". She truly cares about the impact that some of today's evil fear-mongering propaganda is having on women and most importantly, our young, vulnerable children. This is a feel good book designed to help girls feel comfortable, secure and empowered to become strong, healthy and happy women. I highly recommend it!

Children's books are for children
I am a huge fan of Christiane Northrup and have read all her books. She is a brilliant writer for adults. Her use of similie (your body is like a mysterious garden) is lost on young children. Although the illustrations are charming and delightful, the text is abstract, wordy and out of reach for a four year old. There are no cute characters or engaging storyline for the child to empathize with. On a positive note, when Ms. Northrup has something to share, I think we should listen up. The most poignant part of the book is her wise advice about how to deal with touching that does not feel right. This is a topic that has not appeared in children's literature much. I recommend buying this book simply because it is a jump off point for discussion written by one of our greatest spiritual teachers.

Beautiful book!
Beautiful book! This book is gorgeously illustrated & written in a way to let the parent decide the depth of information up for discussion. I found my first copy in a bookstore in Canada & bought it for my infant daughter. I was so impressed with the book, that I purchased another copy for a friend's daughter as a birthday gift. I'm sure I will buy more copies as gifts in the future. I love the diverse illustrations of the girls - many ethnicities & variations represented. For young girls, it can be a basic overview. For older girls, it can invite deeper discussions about their bodies. Very beautiful!

Disappointed by the content in terms of practical advice to parents
I have expected much more from this book. I love Dr. Northup's work but this book doesn't really explain anything about the wonders of our body. It just says it's wonderful and one should take care about it (which I totally agreed with). But that's about it. I guess I had expected more detailed content and explanations would come with those beautiful illustrations, of course in age appropriate metaphores and language. Yes, it can serve as a starting point for conversations but doesn't help those parents who don't know how exactly they could speak to their daughter about her changing body.

Delightful!
Beautifully written and illustrated! If only all young girls had the privilege of having their femaleness presented to them in such a positive, uplifting and inspiring way! Surely any young girl would benefit from this book and love it! It would most likely become an instant favourite!

Beautiful illistrations
My daughter and I really appreciated reading this book together. She was probably a little grown up for it. She was coming up for 11... But we loved the illustration and that bought forward some great conversation. So worth it for that... Looking forward to reading it with my younger daughter some time in the future...
