I have several one-litre bottles that I use for brewing Vanilla Extract, and if you over-tighten those with metal screw-on lids, the threads on the lid become weak and this makes it hard to seal well. Since it is imperative that the Vanilla Extract be shaken on occasion, this can lead to spillage. These corks fit inside the bottle neck tightly enough that the contents of the bottle does not spill out, even during vigorous shaking. I was concerned that they might be too small and leak during shaking, or too large and potentially break the neck of the bottle.
