Q: I want to use this one to cover a 6 inches opening, will this do it ?

The square part is 10 in plus. The hole part is 8in. You will need to buy one with the 6 in hole. My husband used this in our camper to keep water from getting in a vent. It works great. If you need 6in this is not your product,

Most any pipe can be used if you want to reduce/increase with adapters. Why buy this when there's an assortment of 4" size vents readily available?

No, it has a rim of plastic in the back about 1" which I needed to cut off to make flush
