The gun works well. Its simple to navigate and has a nice style. Upon opening the battery compartment, i noticed one of the battery terminals and battery had rust from moisture. The batteries were dead and I had to clean the rust from the terminal for new batteries to work. Otherwise, it's a great tool.

Perfect for checking vegetable temperatures in soup or stews. Good for checking surface temperatures of meats. Just point laser at non transparent surface and pull trigger to get temperature reading. Very easy.

I have this same model from about 2 years ago, which uses 9-volt batteries. No hardship, but I wanted to get one that used AAA batteries, if they made one. Versus my Instant-Read contact thermometers, this one reads a little higher on some things, (maybe most things, about 8 or 10 degrees), like boiling water; it also does not like shiny objects as others have mentioned. It's quick and easy to use. I use it when boiling water, to put 203 degree water in my French Press and it's very helpful; (I know, I could buy an electric kettle). I also use it for pan temperatures before putting food in, not forgetting the above mentioned caveats. NOT product specific, but when the included batteries go out, I would ONLY use rechargeable AAA batteries; especially in flashlights and TV remote controls, I have NEVER used a regular AAA battery that did NOT leak acid; some of you know that this is the absolute truth! Just a head's up. Anyway, a useful and time-saving product, especially for the price!
