I've never had one fail and they have been really solid. I use this one to control the speed of fans that I have in a home purifier. it just works well. The voltage setting is difficult to get just perfect because the knob is very small. it is hard to get like 5.00 volts DC perfect. I don't need that much precision in what I'm doing so if I turn the knob and it's 4.90 or 5.24 it doesn't affect what I'm doing. so with a caveat that it's difficult to set a very precise voltage, this unit works really well for variable speed or prototyping type work.
