y 2nd Kasa EC60 โ Best Reliable "No-Subscription" Baby Monitor & Camera
I just purchased my second Kasa EC60 camera. Iโve been using my first one for over a year, and it has been so reliable that I decided to get a second one to expand our home coverage. While many modern cameras try to lock you into a $10/month cloud subscription, the Kasa remains one of the best "buy once and own it" options on the market. THE PROS: True Local Storage (The Big Seller): You can insert a microSD card (I use a 64GB card) to record 24/7 or just motion events. This is huge. You don't need the "Kasa Care" subscription to see what happened overnight. Picture & Sound Quality: For a 1080p camera, the image is surprisingly crisp. In "Day Mode," the colors are accurate, and the 130ยฐ wide-angle lens captures almost the entire room from a corner. The "Night Vision" is also impressiveโI can clearly see if my baby is breathing or just moving around in total darkness. Reliable App Interface: The Kasa app is very intuitive. The "Live View" loads within 2โ3 seconds on my Wi-Fi, which is faster than several higher-priced competitors I've tried. Two-Way Audio: The speaker is loud enough to soothe a baby or talk to a pet without sounding like a garbled robot. THE CONS (Minor): Corded Only: This isn't a battery-operated camera. You need to be near an outlet, though the included micro-USB cable is a decent length. No Physical Privacy Shutter: Unlike some higher-end models, there is no physical lens cover. However, you can turn the camera "Off" within the app to stop streaming/recording instantly. PRO-TIPS FOR NEW USERS: Activity Zones: Make sure to set up "Activity Zones" in the app settings. This prevents you from getting a notification every time a curtain moves or a light flickers. SD Card Choice: Get a "High Endurance" microSD card. Because the camera writes to the card constantly, a standard card might burn out after a few months. Final Verdict: If you are looking for a baby monitor or a general indoor security camera that doesn't "nickel and dime" you with monthly fees, this is the one. The fact that Iโm on my second unit should tell you everything you need to know about its longevity and ease of use.

Excellent value for money, can definitely take some abuse.
I originally bought these as a budget camera to put inside one of my rainforest terrariums. The form factor of these ones was perfect, especially compared to their outdoor variants. I didn't expect these to last more than a month or two. Pros ==== - They've been rained on multiple times per day (from the mister system), fallen into the water basin, fallen onto some rocks, caked in mud, scratched up by reptiles, and 5 months later are still are going strong. For a not rated for this kind of abuse, these far exceeded my expectations. - Excellent price per value. This is incredibly helpful when you need multiple cameras to capture different angles. - Pretty good night vision for the price. I've seen worse night vision systems on more expensive models. - Decent enough image quality for the price. It's not anywhere near perfect, contrast is a bit lackluster, but it's good enough that you can see what's going on most of the time. - Low heat output. These average around 83 F in my terrarium and I've never seen one get above 88 F. Cons ==== - The app can be finicky. Luckily, it's pretty easy and straightforward to get the cameras set up in the app. I've used cameras around this price point that fail even that first step. The camera app is generally just buggy. They do update the application often though, and sometimes those updates do seem to resolve some of the bugs. It's not nearly as solid as other camera apps though. - Motion Detection is extremely spotty. I maxed out the sensitivity on mine, did not use activity zones, and it still misses some events it should pick up. Sometimes, it will be accurate enough to pick up a small worm peaking out from under a leaf and wiggling around. Other times, it blatantly misses a large human opening the terrarium doors with their face filling the entire frame. - Auto night vision will sometimes stay in night vision permanently. I wish there was a setting to set the threshold for it changing back from night to day. If you have a shaded part of your house, it will never be bright enough to toggle back from night to day. Conclusion ====== It's like $25 (as of this writing) a camera and survives a decent amount of abuse. I have about 5-6 of them now for my terrariums and have yet to have one fail. Despite it's flaws, you can't go wrong for the price.

Extremely reliable
Great security camera for a great price. Pros: very easy set up, less than 5 minutes, economical, easy navigation of app, anytime the electricity goes out from a storm the camera immediately connects to the wifi when it comes back on. We we have these in our little cabin 600 miles away and they are the most reliable cameras ever. Video quality is excellent in both daylight and night vision, sound quality is great as well. Highly recommend! Cons: none
