Shimmer Lights Purple Shampoo

What surprised you? I was pleasantly surprised that it toned down the brassiness without making my hair feel dry or brittle. Many purple shampoos I’ve tried leave my hair feeling rough, but this one didn’t. Is it worth the money? Yes! A little goes a long way, so the bottle lasts a while. It’s a great value compared to more expensive salon brands. Who would you recommend it for? I would recommend it to anyone with blonde, highlighted, silver, or gray hair who wants to maintain a cooler tone between salon visits. How has it held up after weeks or months? After using it consistently once or twice a week, I’ve noticed my blonde stays brighter and less brassy. It continues to work well without weighing my hair down. Pros: * Effectively reduces yellow and orange tones * Doesn’t leave my hair feeling overly dry * Pleasant scent * A little product goes a long way * Easy to incorporate into my regular hair routine Cons: * If left on too long, it can leave a slight purple tint on very light blonde hair, so be sure to follow the directions. Overall, I’m very happy with this shampoo and will continue purchasing it to keep my color looking fresh.

I have faithfully used this shampoo along with its counterpart conditioner (Clairol Shimmer Lights Blonde Toning Conditioner) for the past several years. I also use the Clairol Shimmer Lights Blonde Toning Mask, but I only use it once every 2-3 weeks, as overuse will leave a purple tint on blonde strands. This shampoo tones beautifully, and leaves a very natural blonde shade once your hair is dry. I do leave the shampoo on my hair, sudsed up, for approximately 3 to 5 minutes before rinsing until the water runs clear. I also leave the conditioner in my hair for approximately five minutes. By doing this, it helps tone the hair and remove all the brassiness from your locks. It lathers beautifully and cleans well. I will never switch brands of shampoo. It is slightly fragrant, but not overly, and has a very pleasant scent. I am subscribed to this product monthly, although that’s really overdoing it. I often skip orders because the shampoo will last for quite a while; a little goes a long way. For reference, I am naturally a medium shade brunette, but I add blonde highlights to my hair every 5-6 weeks. If you are a blonde or silver fox in search of your perfect hair shade and who wants to fight brassiness, give this shampoo a try. I promise you won’t be disappointed. Love it, I actually wear my hair a soft purple/pink and this does a nice job of maintaining my soft color. I was not ready to go white, and I get a lot of comments on how pretty my color is. It's easy to use and does not wash out the pink simi permanent color I use once a month. As I move, my hair radiates soft pink and purple colors in the sun.

Updated- (still have 3/4 of a bottle) So I used it once more about 4/5 days after first use. It appeared to turn my silver/grey darker and more brown. After a lot of research and a phone call to the company I have discovered a few things... I either used too much in the shower or I used it more frequently than needed. I was told if brown happens like described above, use once a week or every other week OR use less product. I probably did use too much honestly. I just had about 8" cut off my hair and I'm still adjusting to using less shampoo and conditioner, so I clearly overdid it. I was also told it's just " purple coloring build up" and if I stop using it for about two weeks the build up should wash away by then. I've stopped using it and can clearly see it slowly starting to fade away. So if you run into this issue know this is why and I just saved you hours on hold looking for answers! I'm also getting use to the smell now so it's a lot less abrasive to me as it was at first. Still not floral refreshing shampoo smell but nowhere near as chemically to me now. Going forward I'm going to keep using this product but a lot less and only once a week. *Older review* Would be 5 stars but the smell is not great. Kind of harsh and not refreshing. My gut says take away two stars for smell but I'm being nice. I decided to try this because I'm old. I'm going grey/silver in a hardcore way and I'm sick of coloring/damaging my hair in a futile exercise to deny my actual age. I fold. Screw it, I'm gonna embrace my age and wear my grey like the earned badge in life it is. I chose this product because it's the most sane, affordable price compared to everything else I looked at. Realistically I am not going to spend 20 to $60 a month on purple shampoo, so this was the way to go for me. Fact vs opinion - I am not a fan of the smell. It's not a chemically smell, but it is not fresh and an expected shampoo smell. i find the scent strong and slightly harsh. Even my conditioners and oils, etc can't tone the smell down. It's thick and creamy, bright purple and a little goes a really long way. It lathers up really good like a decent shampoo. The color was alarming to me as I half expected to dye my shower walls purple. I'm use to hair dye though so the bright purple color causes a psychological learning curve for me. But absolutely no issues. I left it in while showering for 5 minutes, rinsed and then conditioned. Rinsed out super easy like normal shampoo. It does make your hair so incredibly soft! That's a huge plus for me! Is it enough to get over the almost embarrassing 'you've done something' to your hair smell? Yeah, probably. I have super dry curly hair that's got a constant level of thirst that I can't quench. This seems to provided really great moisture that's impressive. Actually really impressive. My hair is so soft after using this as well. Effect- after one use only The grey/silver color is much softer looking if that makes sense. I guess it toned down the brassiness but I can't really tell yet. My hair is silver/grey at roots. I stopped coloring my hair about 4 months ago so the rest of my hair is a light/med brown that has some brass in it. I know it did something, I'm just not really sure what it was yet. I'm going to run out the clock on this one time use and see how long it works before I need to do it again as I never planned on using purple shampoo every time I wash my hair. I'll update my review then on the longevity on this effect and how long the bottle will last. (Bought the 8oz) Cost vs effect- worth it.

**Update. I do t18 toners every month or so. I realized when I only washed my hair with this I don't have to do it as often. I actually could probably stop doing it, but my toning treatment with developer lightens my roots and makes my random grays look like platinum blonde so I still want to do it. I just can definitely stretch it out, and my hair looks so good now consistently by using this shampoo only every 5 days or so. ** I ordered the shimmering lights purple shampoo, and it works well. I thought I used to use this years ago where it looked like a different bottle, and I remember it being incredibly drying. This one isn't as drying, and my hair didn't feel like fried wheat after using it. It's not the most moisturizing, but it's definitely not overly drying like I was used to. Is this a new bottle and formulation or a different line of it? I don't know, but I'm really happy it's not so drying. I let it sit for a while, and I did notice it take out quite a bit of brassiness. I could let it sit in there longer, but I will just do another treatment and get even more effects from it. It also lathers really well, and I like the smell. I would actually reorder it, and it was a good value which is why I ordered it and then it turned out well, thank you.

This got my bleached hair to white after a few uses. And hair still feels healthy.

The over tge counter purple shampoo just didn't keep tge yellow out of my husband's hair but this is what my hair stylist recommended. It works great! Husband is happy with it.
