Very tasty
The spicy chili crisp is amazing tasting, but is not so hot that it ruins your morning the next day. Pros: Shippers bubble wrapped the glass jars to perfection and arrived 100% intact. Shelf-life is until Q1 2027. Hot, savory, but not too hot. Oil-based, no vinegary flavor. Cons: Extremely salty. Oil-based means the caloric count is high.

Excellent! Addicting but pricey
I bought this for a recipe I found online called Chinese Chili and it added the perfect flavor. Other reviews are right though, it is addicting. Every time I ate a bowl of my Chinese Chili I ended up adding more and more to my dish. I would caution moderation though, as I realized after the fact that it was 210 calories for only 2 Tablespoons. It came as advertised, the jar was wrapped in plastic and it came with the nifty little spoon. It is, however, pretty pricey. After finishing this jar, I found the same product at my local Asian supermarket for a fraction of the price. I ended up buying a ~24 oz jar there for about two dollars less than I paid for this ~7 oz jar. I wish I had though to look there first, but it's a bit of a drive. However, after seeing how quickly I finished it off, the drive is definitely worth it. I wish I had found it at my supermarket first and saved a few bucks, but at least I have this neat little spoon now to serve it up with xD.

WOW it's delicious!
My husband and are adventurous foodies; it was one of our initial attractions to each another: good food and laughing together often are keys to a happy marriage! At least it works for us. We've had a longstanding tradition in our house that if you want great ethnic food, eat what people of that ethnic group go for. If you want good Mexican food, forget Americanised versions and go to an authentic taqueria. Well, all the Asians I know swear on their honourable granny's grave by Lao Gan Ma. Lao Gan Ma Spicy Chilli Crisp is to DIE for, if you want that amazing umami flavour with a slight kick of heat, plus an appetising colour to anything you add it to. Lao Gan Ma turns plain steamed rice into an exciting delicacy that can haunt one's dreams. The first jar I ever bought was just too small. We started ordering the bigger 24 oz jar after we ran out of that one, which was about three days! I cannot eat Asian food without it, no WAY. I eat it daily. Try it on non-Asian food, as well. It's incredible on eggs, on French fries, stirred into beef stew or mac and cheese. Brush a steak with it. The possibilities are endless!

Smells funny, but addictive.
There's a smell associated with this that I cannot place, but find a little off-putting. Kind of a starchy aroma, pungent enough and different from other such products that I assumed I would not enjoy the taste. Wrong on all counts. This stuff is highly addictive and can turn even a simple egg dish into a treat. Also, though a little heavy on the calories, this product is more chili than oil as it is positively packed with crispy chilis. Super tasty on pizza, in soups, on a burger, whatever.

Addicting!
Love this chili crisp! I have to close the jar and put it away to avoid eating too much of it on its own. The word "sauce" is a bit of a misnomer, as there is very little liquid normally associated with "sauce." But it's a great condiment.

Ehh, it's okay.
After reading the reviews I was expecting something fantastic..this wasn't the case for me. Before opening the jar, I could smell rancid oil..I hoped that the oil wasn't spoiled like others had reviewed. It wasn't. The oil didn't really have a smell to me. The texture while stirring with a spoon felt hard and stale but when you eat it, it's not. I hardly noticed the peppers when eating it with foods. It took me awhile to get the flavor. The first few spoon fills were not flavorful at all...I was disappointed. Soon I was able to get that umami flavor. After I finally got that flavor profile I was disappointed that I didn't notice any spice, numbness, or warmth... for me...no spiciness what so ever. This product is just okay for me. I wouldn't buy it again.

Delicious
I'm addicted to this stuff ever since picking up a different flavor variant at an Asian market. It's delicious. The little spoon that comes with it is good to stir it up and portion it. I might eat more than one serving at a time... lol. It's not hot to me but I have a high tolerance.

Not spicy, but tastes great
Everyone in my family enjoyed this. I've literally had this with every possible combination and it works. It's not spicy, but affordable for the taste. I loved the little crunchy beans in it. Gives a great texture

🔥
I gave it a try... it smells appetizing... tastes like chicken... and yes, it’s amazing with bread; I think it’s all down to that rich, "fried" texture 🤤. And the aftertaste is excellent... it’s not just sharp, burning heat... you can really taste the spicy aroma 🫶.

Crunchy crispy texture, umami sensation!
I am a chili fan, having originated from southeast asia. I have always been a fan of crispy chilis, and recently came across an article which claimed that Nigella Lawson really rated this brand. Well, who wouldn't take heed of what the goddess has to say about food? I am glad I listened to her. A jar full of crispy salty chili flakes and luscious oil. It is truly caked with crispy chili flakes - they come out in chunks on your spoon. The interesting thing about this is that it has a really nice, warm chili flavour but strangely not at all hot. Ok, I can take hot stuff but my husband and kids who aren't as used to hot food love this and can wolf down spoonfuls at a time. It is unlike another well known brand which is far hotter - however I would say that Lao Gan Ma's flavour is perhaps not as addictive as the other brand that also takes pride of place in my fridge. On the plus side, Lao Gan Ma's texture is more crunchy and crispy than other brands. Add this to Chinese or other Asian dishes to perk up and dial up the umami sensations in these cuisines but I would also recommend adding to Western casseroles and pasta dishes. My rather fussy 11 year old son adds this to his spaghetti bolognese regularly.
