No. It’s pretty obvious to an adult but kids love it!

Can the scarves be "un-connected" from each other so that the individual scarves can be used in other tricks?

They are sewn together so you could take stitching out but it’s not too durable.

Lovely that is it 'simple to learn.' Except there are no directions. How does it work?

Announce to your audience that you have two colored scarves, while keeping the business end of the trick hidden, you grasp the end of the two scarves, with a fist, and reach your fingers into your fist and pull out the other two colors of scarves, giving the illusion the color change took place magically in your fist. If you need further explanation, I’ll bet you can find someone doing the trick on YouTube.
