As far as the negative reviews, I want to remind folks, these are made from natural gourds (similar to a small pumpkin), so they will not be the same size, shape, or color. They also require curing. This is typical of any gourd for drinking yerba mate, not just this brand. The inside is going to look like a gutted gourd (or a gutted small pumpkin). When you first fill them for curing, they will leak a bit from the bottom, and some skin will flake off inside. That's why they need to be cured. When they are ready, the inside will be nice and clean, and the leaking will stop. The instructions are very clear about this, and are well written. The only thing I cringe about in the instructions is, it says to remove the woody stem on the inside, during curing. I've heard this can cause a permanent leak, and it doesn't seem necessary, so you may not want to remove it. Bottom line: if you want them to be all identical and ready to drink without any curing, you should not be buying a gourd; buy a plastic or metal container. They do leak from the top trim but if you just don't over fill it it's fine. Be sure to follow the seasoning instructions, even though it seems weird.
