Just Say Mao / Various

Needed it this one for my collection!

While there are a couple of good songs on this sampler, to me, the standout is "Accidentally 4th Street (Gloria)" by Figures On A Beach, and this sampler contains the superior 7" Single Remix (the version usually played on the radio), which is even more shimmery and beautiful than the (by contrast) blander album version. Sadly, they never released anything else close to this caliber, but this song is a fantastic one-hit wonder.Another notable band is The Ocean Blue, a fantastic modern rock band that had a dozen or so minor (but excellent) hits in their dreamy, ethereal, nautical style.There are a few other well-known bands here, such as Depeche Mode, Erasure, Morrissey, The Tom Tom Club, etc., but none of the tracks here are particularly great. Buy this for Accidentally 4th Street and be happy you have a copy of the best version of this fantastic song.

Just Say Mao is a cool CD, offering a diverse mix of bands and musical styles, from synth-pop to hip-hop. I ended up enjoying most of it, some songs more than others...My favorites include: "Everything Counts" (Remix) by DM is so-so, but "In A Manner Of Speaking" by Martin Gore is awesome!/"Accidentally 4th Street (Gloria)" by Figures On A Beach is a surprise gem./"Pistol" by Erasure is decent./"Insha-Allah" by NASA/"Thrash" by Underworld/"Between Something And Nothing" by The Ocean Blue is melodic and catchy.If there were half ratings I would give this a 3 and a half, which isn't bad at all. There are several other CD's available in the "Just Say" series as well.

"Just Say Yes"で検索したら出てくる、SIRE（レーベル）のコンピレーション・シリーズ第3弾。このシリーズ、内容の詳細が全く分からないのが困ったところです。Tom Waitsの某HPで「このアルバムに参加している」と見て買ってみました。確かに15曲目"Date To Church"(the Replacements)にゲスト参加していました。思いがけず入ってたLou Reedの"Strawman"が傑作"New York"と違う未発表ライブだったのが嬉しかった！
