Whichever path you choose, Knockout is a must-have resource to navigate the life-and-death world of cancer and increase your odds of survival. After reading stunning testimonials from inspirational survivors using alternative treatments, you'll be left with a feeling of empowerment and something every person who is touched by this disease needs…hope. Review: Excellent summary of cancer treatment alternatives - This book is an excellent presentation and collection of cancer treatment alternatives, educating the reader that one really has options when it comes to cancer treatment. Because of my husband's diagnosis of cancer, a type of lymphoma, I did extensive research on the internet. This included searching for books on desertcart.com, reading articles published on the internet, etc. As a result of my search for books on desertcart, I discovered some excellent resources which include this book. We also read with great interest Dr. Russell Blaylock's book, Natural Strategies for Cancer Patients, and Dr. Patrick Quillen's book, Beating Cancer with Nutrition. Ms. Somers interviews Dr. Blaylock in her book, amongst other interviews with physicians and practitioners of alternative medicine. For anyone who themselves has received this very scary diagnosis, or a loved one, the fear and great sadness and emotional pain is indescribable. And Ms. Somers describes her own very harrowing experience, not only because of the diagnosis itself, but at the hands of a very insensitive doctor. And thankfully she had a very supportive husband through the whole ordeal. But as you will read in this book, should you choose to purchase it, you will see that much of the scare and fear one feels upon hearing this diagnosis come primarily because of the great failure of accepted, conventional cancer treatment, namely chemotherapy and radiation, in treating about 90% of cancers. And I believe the scariest thing likely in anyone's mind, is knowing what chemo will do to a patient receiving it: In fact, the diagnosis translates into one's mind as certain death from cancer, when actually 99% of the time, it is certain death from the damage that chemo does to the body more than the cancer itself. And that is chemo without any nutritional support, as most US oncologists will tell a patient "not to take antioxidants, as it helps the cancer." And these drs. ignore the studies published in peer-reviewed medical journals that show otherwise. Enough said, just read Ms. Somers' book on this. It so happened that my husband had a very treatable form of cancer, one of three (as you will also see in this book) in that it responds well, typically, to chemotherapy and radiation. How fortunate we happened to be. In the process of doing all the research I did, (as I had not read this book yet), including visiting a local health foods store, we were led to a center in Seattle that specializes in integrative cancer therapy, specifically, combining allopathic (conventional) cancer treatments with nutritional and alternative treatments. Our insurance co. would not pay for the chemo at that center. So he received chemo locally, and continued his alternative care under a naturopath at the Seattle center. As a result, my husband fared quite well during chemo, and was able to continue working, even overtime, with some fatigue and "chemo brain fog" and hardly any sickness. His local oncologist was surprised he was still working, telling us that most on his chemo regimen are unable to work. Well, of course, need we wonder why. Ms. Somers' interviews with these various physicians are fascinating with her astute questions, and a much, much needed compilation of information, normally not out in the forefront for most seekers of this type of information. In fact, this information is skillfully kept "under the radar" by the all-powerful drug companies who themselves are funding the medical schools (as you will read in the book - see the interview of Dr. Blaylock on this). I personally have always told people that all of the brilliance of the doctors is funneled into the pills that that they are constrained to prescribe, wondering if I was being totally accurate. Dr. Blaylock elaborates on this much better than I could, and confirms what I had already sensed, in his interview with Ms. Somers. Thankfully, Ms. Somers' celebrity status is a wonderful marketing tool for getting this information out. How thankful I am that she used her celebrity in such a way, as it has the potential to save many, many lives. And no doubt, her book is forcing many in the established medical circles to take note, whether they like it or not. If the methods the doctors and practioners are describing here became widely practiced, insurance costs per capita would go way, way down and be exponentially more effective than conventional chemo alone, or even better, in place of chemo. And insurance would be much more obtainable by a much greater percentage of the population. This would be, however, much to the chagrin of the drug companies and conventional cancer treatment givers who are paid handsomely by the insurance companies. How sad on one hand that we have to have a "grass roots" movement to defend our right to the tools and professionals for true health and wellness, with the conventional medical establishment and way too powerful drug companies fighting us on the other side. Of course, they stand to lose billions of bucks if this information begins to gain credence in the minds of the American population. And this is not credence in a theory; there are many studies published on this (carefully squelched), and the doctors Ms. Somers interviews have years of success to prove it, as the patient case studies/success stories for each doctor will show. Review: An Education for All of Us - Knockout:Interviews with Doctors who are Curing Cancer--And how to Prevent Getting It in the First Place, by Suzanne Somers, is a must-read. The book begins with a foreword by Dr. Julian Whitaker who challenges the very paradigm of curing cancer--that is, of removing or destroying it--with surgery, radiation or chemotherapy, Instead, she writes, the challenge to curing cancer lies in stopping the cells from dividing; do that and the cancer disappears. Somers relates her harrowing story of her gross misdiagnosis that occurred in November 2008. She woke up covered in hives and was rushed to the hospital. She was told that she had cancer throughout her body. The hellishness of the experience prompted this book, because Somers explains that if she--a health advocate, best-selling author and famous person could get so mistreated, it can certainly happen to anyone. Shockingly, the medical community has made little strides in curing cancer in 60 years, and it will soon be the second leading cause of death in our country. The purpose of this book is to educate us on the alternatives to the traditional treatment of cancer--surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, and to prevent cancer from happening in the first place. As a cancer survivor, this is a topic close to Somers' heart. There are chapters on the sad state of Western medicine, and how most of us poison ourselves daily--with drugs, chemicals in our food and more. The crux of the book are the interviews with alternative doctors. They are divided into two sections--doctors curing cancer and on preventing it in the first place. Some examples from the interviews: * One doctor interviewed said that mamograms increase the risk of breast cancer. * Sugar and artificial sweeteners feed cancer and help it spread. * Tumeric is one of the most powerful cancer inhibitors. (One note on tumeric--several years ago, I read that there is a significantly low incidence of Alzheimer's Disease in India. Studies proved it was due to the high consumption of tumeric. Lately, I read that tumeric is great in preventing inflammation, increases memory, and a whole bunch of other fantastic qualities. You can buy it in capsule form if you don't eat much of it.) The final chapter is advice for those who do choose traditional treatment to combat cancer. The resources include integrative health practitioners listed by state. I appreciate that Somers interviews a variety of doctors to get all kinds of advice. For those suffering from cancer and for those hoping to prevent it, this book provides solid alternative choices to traditional therapies that don't seem to be working. This book provides hope. Highly recommend. Author of HARMONIOUS ENVIRONMENT and SELL YOUR HOME FAST IN A BUYER'S MARKET

Wish I read this sooner!
This book is a great book to read before starting treatment. It's so upbeat and opens the mind up to Worlds of possibilities. I was cheap and bought it used on some website so I had to wait to get it. When I finally got it I had already been done surgery and I had wished I had read it first before I began treatment. Besides having such a positive attitude it was so full of information I think that would have benefited me. It's still benefited me by the time I read it but this was the one book I regretted not reading sooner. Now there is so much more we know about cancer but it's still a great book and a refreshing Outlook. It's written kind of in an essay form about different doctors and their approaches. If your mind is the type that likes new possibilities and different ways of approaching health I highly recommend it.

Definitely worth a read; Features Interviews as described.
I purchased this book for a loved one recently diagnosed with cancer. He is motivated to read about doctors treating cancer. He isn't looking for a miracle cure or anything, just curious about various doctors treating cancer. A book like this does give you hope. Just as the title explains, the book features interviews with doctors whom Sommers believes are curing cancer. Are these doctors curing cancer? I don't know. Sommers questions are not terribly hard hitting, but I didn't expect them to be. I have studied herbs, nutrition, and, well, wellness I'd say for at least a few years now. I don't come from a totally lay background as I have worked with plenty of people who have studied plants (academic botanists, entomologists, and mycologists...oh my!) and have mainstream training (nurses, an integrative M.D.), and studied under a practicing herbalist. Thus, I'm inclined to believe there may be some things that can be quite helpful to people that potentially are not taught to doctors. I'm not saying there are conspiracies to keep people sick or anything else...I just try to take a step back, keep myself in check, review the scientific literature, and have an open mind. When you're ill, I think it can be especially daunting to wade through various information and opinions from your doctors, from family, other cancer patients, internet advertising, bloggers, etc. I should also add that I imagine many in this state of health are probably desperate too. I recommend reading this book if you're in good health, actually. It is a good read if you're interested in these doctors. The book and interviews, obviously, showcase these doctors in a positive light. I do not recommend buying this book hoping you're going to find a cure for cancer or for some cancer protocol. Please remember the key word is that these are "interviews". Take this book for what it is. If you're looking into chemo, yes a book like this will make you hopeful that there is something else you can do. Again, I caution a reader in this situation to remember to take the book for what it is: interviews. Personally, I would love a more balanced book (e.g. interviewing ocologists who have success with cancer & what their personal opinions are on why some people "beat" their cancer). Candid interviews with mainstream oncologists would be interesting. But this isn't what this book is. The topic is sensational in nature and I imagine desperate cancer patients and their families will be drawn to it. I could glean from the cover and synopsis what the book would be about. There weren't really any surprises here. If there is a take away message, it is that there MAY be certain strategies (exericise, stress reduction, food, supplements, etc.) that can help. This book was really helpful for my relative to see that there are other treatments, methods, thoughts, etc. on helping the cancer patient. These are interviews...not protocols. He had a lot of questions---very, very basic and straight forward questions---that were not answered by his doctors. When you don't get much information from your doctors, you might seek out sources of information elsewhere. It can be empowering to not see yourself as the victim, completely reliant on your oncologist for tidbits of information too. I don't think this book is an awful source of information. Again, just remember that these are interviews. There is a wealth of information online---not saying all is good, accurate, honest, or helpful but there is information. Because he is weak and tired, my relative does not have the energy to read dense books or online literature about cancer regimes or protocols. He wanted to seek out nutrition and health advice for cancer patients. He wanted to learn how doctors (including those in health systems and those in private practice) treat cancer. I thought this book would appeal to him and it did. Many of the interviews, including the one with Drs. Blaylock and Gonzalez, provide a compact, relatively succinct overview about their thoughts on cancer and their recommendations. For someone totally new to complementary and alternative medicine, I think this book is a good place to get started if you want an overview, too, on other cancer treatments. If you're already firmly convinced all alternative medicine is bogus, then I don't think this book would appeal to you. We read this book inclined to believe that there is some merit to complementary treatments, so I can't say I'm being totally objective. Although some of the one star reviews on here imply otherwise, I do not think most reasonable people are going to go out, with very little information, and just try every (or any!) suggestion or method mentioned by those interviewed. I think the bulk of the interviews suggest, too, that there isn't really any one thing people with cancer should do...there are many things. Nor do I think most people are apt to believe there isn't more to know about healing and cancer. It would be good to know more about the success these doctors have had with patients. I think it would be pretty flippant too to dismiss this book because Somers is a celebrity lacking certain credentials. She has her opinions on western medicine and other forms of medicine. Her opinions are not a mystery. Everyone has something to sell and everyone can be less than honest and candid. I didn't recommend that my relative bring this book with him to show his oncologist. He would love to read textbooks that use in medical school, along with books like these just to inform himself. There are better books on health strategies for cancer patients and there is information online if you're looking for more specific protocols. I return to these other books and resources more frequently than he or I will to Knockout. But as a beginning overview, a general resource, and a platform for learning about these high profile alternative cancer M.D.s, I recommend this book. You have to judge this book for what it is. Do not read this book looking for a "cure". I am not giving this book five stars because I think the word "cure" in the title is a strong claim that should be backed up---in the book--with more information/data/even anecdotal, detailed testimonials. Also, I do not want to mislead what may be a likely tired, desperate cancer patient into purchasing a book with the hopeful misunderstanding that they're going to find a cancer cure here. This may only cause additional stress for such a person, create more doubts, and a mental burden. For those in this situation, inclined to believe this, I do think the book should offer some kind of disclaimer. I do not want to temper anyone's hope but please remember, these are interviews. Evaluate this book for what it is. Do not get angry at your doctors or the book. If you have cancer, you need your energy and should not expend it in anger. Go on...if possible, study and read more about your cancer. Do not expect to get all (or any) answers here. Even better, read this book when you are feeling well and/or in good health.

ANOTHER GREAT BOOK BY SUZANNE!
I've read all of Suzanne's books and her information is taken straight from the doctors' mouthes. I'm always open to new ideas and solutions. I do not have cancer but have cancer in my family and have lost family members to cancer. I know, for sure, chemotherapy does not work because they're all dead after horrible rounds of chemo. I believe one day, we will look back on chemotherapy as a barbaric time and that our children or grandchildren will view us as we view the doctors' remedy of the blood-letting in olden times as an actual cure. Death is inevitable just as sure as we are born. We will all die one day, but for sure, I will never have chemotherapy. I made my mind up on that one when the last family member died. The chemo was worse than the cancer.....just horrible. I will definitely go another route if that happens. I appreciate Suzanne's research and information. She has guts to go against the cancer established mogels. I've seen it first hand and I will refuse to be "handled" in such a way as to be given false hope. I definitely believe the medical establishment has no intention of curing cancer for the masses, maybe for themselves and their beloved families, but not for us. If we're smart, we'll try and prevent cancer in the first place. This books gives us some very educated ideas of just how to do that. The good thing I like is that the doctors in her books don't just lay all cancers to smoking. The last person I lost had cancer and never smoked, but the doctors tried to make her say she did......there's just so much more to this than smoking. We could start by getting the fluoride out of our drinking water. It causes cancer and does absolutely nothing for the teeth. Oh there's so much more. Why isn't that fact showing up in headline news? It's proven and factual. Ask the ADA. They know, yet they say nothing. It was in my granddaughter's "bought" formula water that was supposed to be "better". When I saw that it had flouride.....I couldn't believe it. We'd best read and learn for ourselves. I'm open to new ideas that DO NOT INVOLVE CHEMOTHERAPY.I'm convinced it's a money making rackett.

Caring Intelligent Doctors are Interviewed in Excellent Book
With one major error in editing, this 2009 book should be read by everyone over the age of 13. I have recommended it to family, friends, patients, students, colleagues and members of the City Council! This is Suzanne Sommers's 18th book! And while most of them are pretty good, the last four [Ageless, The Sexy Years, Breakthrough and Knockout] have been exceptional. Suzanne does her research and then chooses truly excellent doctors for the interviews. Read this book now...and if you are diagnosed with cancer, read it again and then choose one of the four doctors actively involved in the healing process. [Those four doctors are cited in Part II and more are cited in the Resources Section in the back of the book.] I'd recommend buying the hardback cover for your health shelf or library. And while sitting in your favorite reading chair with good lighting over your shoulder, use a plain #2 pencil to "make the book your own" by marking passages and writing any questions or comments on a particular paragraph or page or chapter. The major flaw in the editing is not recognizing [several times] the difference between the words "traditional" and "conventional." The word "traditional" is a wonderful word which includes/honors the traditions of Ayurvedic, Chinese, Native American, Naturopathic, Homeopathic and [the original]Osteopathic Medicine. "Conventional" refers to Allopathic, western, orthodox, mainstream medicine which is excellent in Emergency Medicine but not so good in cancer prevention or treatment [surgery, chemotherapy, radiation.] Holistically, Integratively, Preventively, Tom Laga, PhD [Dr Tom] Freelance Editor for Health & Wellness Newsletters, Magazines, Books

Highly informative, intelligently written;
I was recently diagnosed with my own breast cancer, and wanted information from outside the preverbial "box" of mainstream thinking. It was even better than I had expected. I am forever grateful to Suzanne Somers for writing such a captivating and highly informational book. It is filled with great discussions from the Dr.'s themselves, and Ms. Somers asks really great questions. I believe in what these Dr's are doing, as their patients are actually and truly living proof, that there are several alternatives to conventional approaches to treating cancer, ie; radiation and chemo. Not only are these Dr's healing people, but they are doing so without such horrific side effects or dangers. I have tremendous respect for Ms. Somers for having brought these Dr's into the mass public through this book and for having the courage herself to take a different path in her own cancer recovery. She is inspiring as are the Dr's and people in this book. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to know more than the conventional standard of care. I believe that these Dr.'s are doing more for cancer patients and those patients are beating cancer. You can't deny the statistics. Clearly conventional medicine needs to reassess their practice. Dr's Stanislaw Burzynski and Nicholas Gonzalez are beating all the odds. Read for yourself and make your own opinion. I think you will be amazed by this book, I sure was! Excellent book!!

This book saved my husband's life
My 50yr old husband was diagnosed with stage iv colon cancer earlier this year. It spread to lungs, lymphnodes and liver, which had 'too many tumors to count' so gi didn't even bother thinking my husband would be dead in few weeks. We jumped into chemo... which stabilized him...but by 5th round of max dose, his neuropathy and lack of energy were worst than cancer. After 10th session...and hearing our oncologist say my husband had months to live and it would be chemo that kills him...we finally gained the courage to walk out. We came home and sat on the porch staring out at a fl thunderstorm. We were both crying, scared, not knowing what to do. Then I looked over to the table where I kept massive stacks of 'cancer' books. On top was a new one I'd recently ordered but haven't started...it was Knockout. I began reading out loud ...the first interview was with dr.burzynski...his treatment made so much sense... we immediately called to schedule a consultation. Long story short, my husband is two months into his 3-month treatment with dr.b. Latest scans show ALL (hundreds) of liver tumors are calcified/inactive. Lungs and lymphnodes completely clear. Colon lesion still there but less dense and clearly breaking apart. We had our scans done through our oncologist for insurance purposes...so he saw the amazing results. Although his PA's have expressed disbelief at the scans, our oncologist won't give any credit to burzynski...he won't even meet with us to discuss. Thanks to Suzanne we have gone from counting our last sunsets together to planning a future! You have changed our lives and for that we love you more than you'll ever know. Thank you!

Informative
The book contains what I consider very useful information about other ways to look at prevention and treatment of cancer.

Outstanding book - useful tool in understanding Cancer
. This is a very useful book to help understand more about how to avoid and cure cancer. Suzanne Somers interviews 12 doctors who are either CURING cancer or who give advice about how to avoid cancer. The first few chapters of the book are wasted with her story of how a life-threatening incident of poisoning by exotic plants was mis-diagnosed as terminal cancer. The main chapters are each devoted to an interview with 1 of the 12 doctors who are curing cancer or who who give advice about how to avoid cancer. Most of the doctors are very critical of the classical approach to cancer, which they summarize as "Cut, Burn & Poison" ( IE: Surgery, Radiation & Chemo-therapy ) If you can sort out the "wacky" from the useful science then this is a wonderful resource. There is an excellent listing of many doctors in USA who are active in this work. Overall, a superb book and well worth reading. .

Very valuable source of information
This book was recommended to me by another cancer patient at my acupuncture clinic. This book helped me find, and later chose to follow, an alternative health/cancer protocole. Though I had reservations about cancer treatment“alternatives”, and trust me I am all in for natural ways to healing, this book showed me that there are serious, well developed and researched body friendly cancer treatments available. I have personally committed to one of the treatments mentioned in the book. If anything, if you are struggling with this terrible disease like I am, this book will instil hope in your heart. Best of luck.
