Question 1

How do you prevent the scorch marker from bleeding underneath a stencil?

Accepted Answer

Sand as smooth as possible, wipe away dust. Apply stencil firmly. Then use your wood burning pen and only apply a tiny bit of liquid. a little goes a long way! (Here we recommend: use absorbent paper towels to absorb excess water on the nib and keep it slightly moist, get back to work), then remove the stencil and apply heat! hope this helps!

Question 2

How do you prevent the wood burning from fading if using on an outdoor sign?

Accepted Answer

It might not wash off much in rain, however....
The burn effect is not deep into the wood at all. It's also very runny so it's really hard to get the exact impression you want. Using a stencil can help but this liquid will get under the stencil because it will soak into the wood and spread.
Can you use a router instead?

Question 3

What is the difference between a scorch pen and a sharpie, and why do they look the same？

Accepted Answer

No, first of all, sharpie itself is just a black mark; Secondly, sharpie does not have any chemical reaction when heated and will fade. The wood burning pen is a wood burn marker, after heating, a chemical reaction occurs to turn black, and the most important reason, the wood burn mark does not fade like ink. Sharpie is a good product, but it doesn't replace the wood burning scorch pen.

Question 4

Can you use a hair dryer for heat or is a heat gun necessary?

Accepted Answer

We recommend a heat gun over 1200 watts. Surface temps need to reach ‘400+ F - 600+ F’ for the reaction to take place. Therefore a heatgun rated above 700F is best. However, the heat of the hair dryer cannot be satisfied. So, Use an industrial heat gun for better results.
