There seems to be no raised/butting edge to line paper up against with the 1 inch mark. Am I missing something?

When cutting paper...say you want to cut paper at 5 inches, slide the paper under the clear guard and put the other side of paper at 5 inch. Then slide blade down. The divet where the blade sinks into is the start of one inch . If your wanting to score something line your paper up with that divet and score at that first mark. Hope that helps.

How do you change the blade

you just pull apart the ruler that the blade sits in and you can lift the blade out (its the entire blue plastic thing).
