One of three fabulous natural products that work gently and well
I have been dyeing my hair since I was 21 (didn't want to see even one gray hair)so I consider myself a well-seasoned consumer of hair dyes. I have also had my hair done in NY and LA at top salons for a lot of money, so I consider this product among all those experiences and it comes out near the top. There are three products like this that I have used, Naturcolor, Herbaceuticals and this one, NaturTint. All of them are available at other sources and the local organic market but not at this attractive price. So, from an economics point of view, this is a bargain. But also from a hair care perspective, NaturTint excels. It smells pleasant and that is paramount to me. I cannot use any Clairol or Feria or Garnier products because they are so acrid and I have a sensitive olfactory. I like the fact that this product is natural and free of the typical carcinogens and immune compromising chemicals that are found in many of the cheaper, more commercial products of this type. The colorways are great and can be mixed and matched. I use 3N and top it with a dark blonde so I have a few highlights where my hair is gray. Like most of these products, it is slightly thick and can drip. Like other reviewers, I place a large old towel on the rug in my bathroom, to protect it and I wear a black cotton shirt while working with the product. I use a colorist's bowl and tools that I picked up cheaply at the local beauty supply shop. I use a foam 'brush' and a wide tooth comb and dab the mixture onto my hair in thick rows, then comb it through as needed. I only comb to the ends as I finish, so the most potent chemical action will spare them. I leave it on 30 minutes. When I wash it out, I only use the cream rinse that comes with the package - not the shampoo. I make sure there is a thorough rinsing under a brisk stream of cool water and that is all I need. I then gently comb through my hair while it is very damp and put on an anti-frizz that I like from John Frieda. Since I am a pharmaceuticals writer, I learned long ago that hair is most fragile when wet - so I handle it very gently until it is mostly dry, then I invert my head (I have shoulder-length hair) and blow it dry quickly. I style it later, just before I leave the house. The result is shiny, manageable, natural-looking and healthy hair, considering it is treated. I do this every 6 to 8 weeks and that works well for me, as I no longer wash my hair every day (as we age, our hair becomes dryer, thinner and more brittle, reducing shampoos will slow that process and keep hair strong enough to reduce breakage, in my experience). I use boar bristle round brushes and a non-laurel sulfate shampoo for colored hair. I honestly think, if I had continued using even my old favorite L'Oreal Natural Match my hair would eventually have aged more quickly than it does with this product. I started using NaturTint in the '90's and am happy it is still around. I also think the quality of the natural colors leaves me with a softer, more natural looking brunette.

No chem smell, works great!
I am very impressed with this dye! It has no chemical smell, instead it smells very earthy. It completely covered my gray and has held up over several washes now. I will update if it starts to fade too quickly but so far I'm thrilled with it!

Excellent Custom Service!
The color turned out great and exactly as I was hoping. However, when I went to wash it out, I had so much residue left in my hair even after spending over half an hour in the shower to wash it out. It felt greasy and sticky and my hair never looked dry for a couple days. I tried to wash it out again and the same thing happened, lots of residue was left in my hair. My hair just looked very oily and wet and was super sticky. Note: I was using bar shampoo and conditioner. I contacted the company and they sent me 4 complimentary full-size products to help with removing the residue. They sent the CC Cream Leave-in Conditioner, Color Care Shampoo, Color Care Conditioner, and Hair Food Deep Conditioning Mask. The company went above and beyond to help me and after using their Shampoo and Conditioner just 1 time, the residue was washed out completely. Now I can enjoy the beautiful color of my hair. It would be helpful if they included a sample-size of their shampoo and conditioner with the hair dye for best results. I am grateful for the full-size products and the generosity of the company. Thank you Naturtint!

Definitely Recommend
Been using this for at least a year since Whole Foods discontinued my other product. That was a blessing in disguise because Naturtint is easier to use and I like it better. My hair is about 20% gray, concentrated on top and sides where observers can see it most! This does a great job of coloring and staying on the longer portion of my hair, however I find that the roots fade pretty fast - in about 2 weeks. I have to color by 3 weeks or it gets really obvious. I color only the roots, never drag it through my ends b/c it doesn't fade there. My biggest frustration is getting it shampooed out of my hair. Recommendation on that below. Pros: Easy to use - you don't have to wash first like some natural brands require, and doesn't take hours to color, like henna Doesn't have that awful, burning ammonia smell that, with reg. brands, kept me from coloring without an exhaust fan and only when my kids weren't home! Gentle on the scalp - no burn Totally lasts on my ends - the shaft of my hair never fades and stays a nice chestnut color, even on the gray Cons: Roots tend to fade faster than standard brands (but I'll take it as a trade for carcinogenic chemicals) Still has some chemicals--let's be real--but less toxic Washing: this stuff is REALLY hard to wash out of your hair. I can wash 5 times in the removal step, and usually can still feel a grimy coating on my hair until I shower again and wash it several more times. FIX: through trial and error I found that if I rinse with very warm (like, hot) water before and after shampoo, it will rinse out in one shower (maybe two washes). It's not good for your hair though to wash in hot water, so I don't love this, but I make sure to do a final slow rinse in very cool water to lay down the cuticle before I'm done. Works for me. TIP: because I color only roots, it's a waste to wash half the bottle down the drain. I wash out the previous use's squeeze bottle and keep it - then mix only half of the new mixture into it. So each bottle colors twice, which is not only better because I'm not shooting chemicals down the drain, it's more economical. The two bottles of color and developer each have approx. 5T of liquid in them, so I measure 2 1/2T of each into the empty bottle and shake. It's the perfect amount to saturate my roots on top and sides, with some bonus coverage in back but I wouldn't be able to saturate all areas if I had full gray in back. You cannot mix the whole thing and save it though b/c once it's mixed, you have to use or discard.

Great hair dye
My hairdresser recommended me this hair dye. Iโve been using it for about six months now, and I absolutely love it. Thereโs no strong chemical smell at all as it ammonia-free, which makes the whole coloring process much more pleasant. It mixes easily and applies smoothly, spreading evenly through the hair. I have a small percentage of gray hair, and this dye covers it beautifully. Iโve seen some reviews mentioning that some people experienced skin reactions. Personally, Iโve had no issues at all. I would recommend doing a patch test beforehand, just as the manufacturer advises, to make sure itโs a good fit for you. Highly recommend!

Great product. Will buy again.
I love this color. I wanted a soft black/brown without reds or golds. This color delivered. It covered a small amount of gray. However, it looked a little too matte after I air dried my short, wavy hair. I sprayed with a leave-in oil treatment, and that gave my hair a nice sheen and manageability. Ill be buying this, again. Great Value for a "clean" hair dye.

Terrible
This product irritated my scalp resulting in dry itchy scabs. Iโve never had this reaction to any other hair dye. Would not by again.

Great hair dye
Great hair dye, have been using only this for years now, also during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It does not smell at all and has most infrefients natural. Never had any problrms. The only disadvantage is that it only lasts around 1 month and then i have to reapply it

Perfect for my mum who is allergic to ingredients in other hair dyes
My mum is thrilled that she can cover her whites/greys again after developing an allergy to ammonia and other ingredients in normal hair dye even the ones in hairdressing salons. This was very gentle and didn't cause any irritation to her scalp (she has alopecia and eczema ). Whilst it did not provide complete coverage, it did extremely well and provided an all over even colour, it had been a long time since it was dyed so this may be why. Would definitely recommend and will be buying more.
