Seed-grown in California All of our trees are seed-grown at our nursery on California's Redwood Coast, which is inspected and licensed by the California Dept. of Agriculture. Trees make it livable. Tree Sizing Due to the dynamic nature of actively growing trees, as well as the tremendous variation between species’ growth rates, we rely on the cubic volume of a seedling’s root mass to determine its size . Within each size there is minor variance. Small Tree Seedling Approx. 1 year-old, with a root plug about the size of a test tube. Medium Tree Seedling Approx. 1 to 2 years-old, with a root plug about the size of a small soup can. XL Tree Seedling Approx. 2 to 3 years-old, grown in roughly 3-gallon containers. Review: Retired DIY person - Plant arrived in a cardboard tube (like a rolled up picture would) and the plants were okay and so replanted immediately and today, they are doing well and have doubled in size. So I am very happy with the purchase. Review: Excited to see them grow! - I received to healthy seedlings that survived shipment from CA to IL. The soils was def on the dry side and half of the needles were brown towards the bottom (a long trip). However, life still remained towards the top, nice and green. I couldn’t stop smelling the package they shipped in! More fragrant than my live Christmas tree! Within minutes of opening package, I removed and watered right away. Then proceeded to plant them according to provided directions. I hope they make it! I’m slowly going to acclimate them to Chicagoland weather. Luckily, we have had a very mild Winter and feeling their first Midwest air as I type this. Thank you!
