Is this a long term arrestor or do they lose effectiveness over time and need to be replaced later?

I was not impressed with the length of time the air stayed charged in these arrestors. I had to go through a bit of work to recharge the air in them. As a result, I would not recommend them to anyone to buy.

What pressure do i need to maintain? house piping is at 65 psi.

Water pressure is not effected by the arrestor so 65 PSI will be maintained in the water line after the arrestor is installed. When a shock (hammer) wave is generated, the unit will obsorb the shock wave. Follow the instructions provided with the unit to adjust the units working pressure. The unit is set at 30 psi by the manufacturer. The operating range is up to 150 psi.

What adapter do I need to make this work with outside hose bib?

This should be mounted in the line inside the wall going to the bib

So increasing the pressure setting on a hammer arrestor does what exactly?

first you need to know what your water pressure is, then put the same amount of air pressure in the arrestor with out any water pressure on it. it you increase the air pressure beyond your water pressure you greatly reduce its ability to work in its threshold. less dampening.
