I found out it was due to the back having a light rubberized coating. It really helps to keep this rug flat, which is a wonderful addition. And this rug is so soft! SO SOFT! Almost like a stuffed animal! I was a little leery buying this rug, thinking that it might be a rough texture and spots would wear away easily. It seems like it’s better made than that. My sister is extremely happy with this rug in her Egyptian themed craft room.
