Does not stay alight for cold smoking like it should. Normally able to load up my cold smoker and smoke overnight, however this saw "dust" is out within 30 mins. It is not saw dust it is shavings. Don't waste your money

Used in my electric smoker. I use the electric smoker to prevent introducing off flavors from poor quality charcoal and I have never had a good experience with pellet smokers. But this raw/pure sawdust gives off clean smoke. This product is to fine to get good results in a traditional wood/charcoal fire smoker, but works flawlessly in electric heat element models.

I love this product! I use it to cold smoke raw sausage fatties (ie-Jimmy Dean), block cheese, and primo steaks prior to high heat grilling for superior flavor because it is naturally dried. The primary benefit of using the sawdust is because of the superior flavor and that it DOES NOT generate heat like pellets (or chips) do in a cold smoke generator On a warm day, like 40 degrees, I can cold smoke the sausage or cheese, without getting greasy or slightly getting cooked. Cheeses like mild cheddar, swiss, colby, jacks, and especially mozzarella.....they tend to get soft, mis-shapened, and get that greasy exterior. Not so with pellets or chips. The primary complaint of this product is that the sawdust may not burn consistently, or go out often. I have experienced this a few times and my summation is that it happens because either the air is very humid (rain/summer) or the product in not adequately dried. Regardless, it has been in my BEST EXPERIENCE to microwave the sawdust (about 1-cup for 30 seconds/2 cups for 1-minute) prior to adding to the cold smoke generator. The end result is a drier product with a smoother burn, a cooler and more consistent smoke. Gently stirring of the sawdust prior to adding to the generator guarantees the most consistent smoke for the most superior product. Microwave BEFORE using!
