Perfect in every way!
I needed a way to hook my computer and an internet tv and Skyangel into my internet connection. I tried a ethernet splitter/switch and that didn't work well at all. I looked at several routers and did not like the reviews on a lot of them. My need was for a wired connection for the best internet signal. It is probably just me but I don't trust wireless as far as security goes and I hear that there is lag and signal drops. This Actiontec modem/router was just the answer and I have to say I was just giddy when I saw such a device available at Amazon. I spent about three hours researching products on the web and came up empty on everything until I came over to Amazon.com and searched here and then jackpot!! I have ATT dsl and this modem integrates just perfectly with my ATT account. It is basically plug and play. It configures your connection for you flawlessly and there is no software that you have to download to your computer first. I had internet connection in about three or four minutes and was surfing the web. I have to say this modem seems to work more efficiently then the one that came with my ATT dsl account. And as far as the router part, it works wonderful as well. It seems to send just the right amount of internet signal to every connection as I was downloading some things to my computer and watching Skyangel at the same time without any loss of connection to either the computer or Skyangel. I am very pleased with this product and feel that I got my money's worth.

No vendor support from Stephens 2000
The vendor is awful. The modem delivered to me was defective from the get-go and never maintained an internet connection (confirmed by both private computer tech I paid to come try and sort it out and by ATT). I tried to return it for a refund and the Amazon affiliated seller takes no returns and gives no refunds; telling me to send it to the warranty company for repair. Yep, can really afford to be without a modem for a couple of moths while that's happening! I've chalked it up to a $80+ lesson learned on reading the fine print before I place an order.

Works great, except for power users.
I've purchased about 3 of the same model already, because they needed to be replaced after maybe 3-4 months of usage. This will probably be the last time I will purchase the model, because it just isn't very durable. This gateway serves great for those that do not deal with a lot of internet traffic (read: Bittorrent). If you fall in the power user category, there is something you should be aware--your hardware will eventually die out and stop connecting to the internet. At first, everything seems like it should be working in order, you can still connect to the settings page and configure your gateway. It'll eventually lead you to believe that your internet provider has gone down under so you spend time on the phone with them only to realize it's just your Actiontec gateway that has given out on you. I do a lot of downloading everyday, I have bittorrent and other download clients running to maximize my download capabilities. It is no surprise that the gateway is under a heavy load. However, I use a Buffalo router with DD-WRT as my main networking device and the Actiontec is just configured to be a modem, so I cannot comment on the tools the Actiontec provides but it seems robust enough for the average user. Beware of impending hardware failure if you are a competent daily downloader.

Great, simple wired router
We decided to stop using wireless internet and switch back to wired. I researched wired routers for a while before deciding on the Actiontec Gt724r. It had some mixed reviews on Amazon, mostly people either loving it or saying it just didn't work from the start. But because I just needed one quickly and rely on Amazon's quick shipping, and I wanted one with multiple ethernet ports, I decided to go with it. We paid $49.99 including shipping. We received it 2 days later and I immediately went to setting it up. It took me a while to configure it to our settings. For some reason it wouldn't detect our internet connection automatically like the instructions said it would, so I had to call our DSL provider and aqcuire the information I needed to set it up manually. Once we got it working though, it was flawless. We haven't had it lose the signal or just go out on us like our wireless router would at times, and having the 4 ports has been very handy for plugging in extra things since we no longer have the wireless option. We've never had to reset it for any reason either. It is about the same size as our wireless modem, and to me it looks "average"- not fancy, but not too terribly ugly either. It comes with a slide in base so you can stand it up right or lay it on it's side. We prefer having it upright. It is very easy to understand which LED indicator lights are what, which ports are for what, and which buttons are for what, so even a novice like me can figure it out! Overall we have been very happy with the Actiontec Gt724r!

Perfect Device For Wired.
The Actiontec GT724R wired router/DSL modem combo is simply the best one of it's kind around that I've found. I've been searching the entire web for a device that I could hook up to replace my 4 plus year old AT&T Speed Stream modem with and this fit the bill perfectly. I was going to buy a wired router and just connect it with my old modem but this device takes care of that too with it's built in modem. It works wonderfully too. I took it out of the box, snapped the base on it, hooked the cables then typed the modem address into my browser. It was the common 192.168.0.1 address. That brought up the setup screen. I just clicked to have it automatically install and that was it. It was that simple. I hooked up my LG blu-ray player and my WII and I have full connection strength to all three devices. I've only had it for 3 days but so far it has exceeded my expectations. If you want to build a network at home or the office then this is the way to go if you don't mind it being wired. I definitely recommend it.
