Buckwheat Honey | Winter Park Honey (Pure Raw Unblended Unheated)

I think many of us grew up using honey (and lemon juice...and maybe even a little brandy!) in a cup of tea to calm coughs and soothe sore throats. I always used clover honey, but recently I was told that buckwheat honey is better for coughs than any other type of honey. I bought my first bottle at a farmer's market, where I was told about the health benefits of buckwheat honey. It is very dark in color and has a full, rich taste to it. I had a cough at the time, so I figured it was a good time to try it . Well, it may have been coincidence, but my cough subsided shortly after I began putting a teaspoon of buckwheat honey in my tea. I love the flavor of it, but it is definitely different than "regular" honey. I save it for medicinal purposes, and I really think it works. But even if it doesn't do anything to cure my cough or fix my sore throat, it really tastes good and it makes me feel better!

So first off, Buckwheat Honey is an acquired taste. It is a dark, thick and richly flavored honey, not for the faint of heart. I cut it 50/50 with a quality butter and it makes an excellent spread for my morning toast. The product itself therefore is awesome and highly recommended. I noted before ordering that a lot of folks reported broken lids on receipt. I didn't experience that but easily could have; the plastic bottle was tossed in a box and then some paper was wadded into the remaining empty space so the bottle wouldn't move around during shipping. There was no protective/bubble wrap around the product itself.

I love buckwheat honey. I have bought it from different vendors in different countries - from Germany to Bashkirostan, in the past ten years. Yet, I have never tried anything quite like this. If someone gave it to me to try in a blind test, I would not have even recognized the taste as one of honey. I can not say that it is bad. It is ok, it is very dark, almost black, so I assume that it's theraputical qualities are high. Still, this is definitely not what I expected. Which is ok, it has widened my horizon for sure, and I like it. But boy, it is different. This honey has unusually high acidity, I even googled it. According to Google, it is normal for honey to taste sour, and this one does. As such, it goes very well as topping with yogurt, or with tvorog if you are of a Russian descend. As for the honey tendency to form sugar crystals, it is expected. It varies from one batch to the next, and back in Russia, we thought that honey that does **not** form crystals is made by feeding bees with sugar syrop. Even though the specific bottle of honey I got is totally liquid, reading about people getting this honey with sugar crystals makes me feel better about authentity. Bottom line: If you like trying new things - this is definitely something new for you to try. You will like it. If you just want the same Shoprite honey but healthier, this is not for you, do not even bother.

Winter cough disappears with buckwheat honey. I have been using it over a year now and never have to buy cough drops. It is a dark coffee color and a tad stronger in taste. I LOVE IT.

I am a repeat customer and really like this honey. I tried few buckwheat honeys, and prefer this one due to rich taste and aroma. It is very dark, almost black in color, intense taste and very liquid. Easy to squeeze on the top of the toast. Pleasant aftertaste.

Not sweeter, but with a distinct subtle flavor (think molasses) I happen to love. A special treat for whenever I can afford it (3-4 times more expensive than clover honey)

I am a fan of buckwheat honey. Unfortunately, this does not have the taste of pure honey. It tastes like honey cut with molasses and maybe other syrups. Waste of time and money to order.

Buckwheat honey is starting to be hard to find. I was getting it from another web site until Covid put an end to that supply. Having to pay more than double what I was paying for this honey, I can't say I am happy about the price. This honey is authentic, dark color, rich in flavor, it's everything I expected for buckwheat honey. I bought a cheaper brand from Amazon and it was like regular honey. I will use this conservatively.
