What metal is this composed of? Often these kits are either aluminum or steel, but your product just says “metal.”

Steel, at least the one I purchased is. Decent fit and finish. So much better quality than those really cheap Aluminum units in the $30 or more price range, which I did. Yy at first with immediate buyers remorse. Probably just cold rolled steel, as I just checked for hardness and a file will bite into tool holders and post. The mating surfaces are ground at least, and really quite well-almost a mirror finish. Definitely locks up tight and is solid on my mini lathe. Sorry for the over-answered question but based on my experience trying to get a decent product at a good price, I feel this was a good purchase.
