Powerful, quiet, affordable turtle filter
This filter is underrated. I've been using it for over a year now for my juvenile snapping turtle—who is a messy eater and poops a lot—and this filter keeps his water crystal clear all the time. It has also handled the bioload from a bunch of guppies that keep reproducing, since my turtle has decided that fish are friends, not food. I appreciate that the filter isn't the size of a garbage can like the Fluval, and there's plenty of space to fill it with various types of filter media. I also find it easier to clean than the hang-on-back (HOB) filters I use in my other aquariums. I simply take it out to the side of the house, rinse everything with a hose, refill it, plug the hoses back in, and it's good to go for several months. It's virtually silent—the bubbler in the tank is much louder. I was initially concerned it wouldn't be able to keep up with my turtle, but I couldn't justify the cost of the Fluval when this one is a third of the price and has a higher GPM (gallons per minute) rating. While I’m sure the UV output has degraded over time, the light is still functional.

Waste Of Money
Don't buy these, I bought two of the largest filters available. The filters are constantly shooting out air bubbles, I give the filter a few back and fourth motions. Right back to air. Well after about a month of use one filter stopped working, I'm assuming that the motor overheated from lack of water flow due to the constant air being trapped. My other filter is doing the same thing, just a matter of time before it fails to. I paid a lot of money for these filters. It's past the time frame to send back. I'm just sick to think about all that money wasted

So far so good
Even though the price about made me cry 😭 this filter really is a beast. For context, I have a 300 gallon outdoor pond (repurposed pool) and I haven’t been able to see my fish for around the last month due to the micro algae in the water. So I decided enough was enough and bought this guy to help me out. I bought the biggest version and it really seems to be doing the things I want it to do. The video above is not long after I started it up (which took a bit of doing) but I checked it this morning and the water was already starting to look so much better! I’m really excited to see just how crystal clear it’s going to make it! p.s. I’ll try and remember to update once it’s been going for a while to discuss quality and durability UPDATE: I’ve had this thing going for over a month now and it’s fabulous! The water is crystal clear and everything in my pond is thriving. I’ve had an some hiccups with this thing here and there due to how my pond is set up but overall it’s a really simple and easy system

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS ITEM
This filter stopped working after 10 months, I reached out to the seller to find out what the warranty was on this item, and there is none. However he did offer that I could purchase a new one for half price. When I asked again about the warranty I got crickets. Unless you want to through your money away, stay clear from this item. *****Update***** The seller did contact me after this review. It took about a week to get the problem resolved and they ended up sending me out a replacement unit. I still didn't get an answer back if there is a warranty on the item but am pleased that they stepped up and sent out a new unit. So I updated their stars from 1 to 4. It's important for buyers to know what the warranty is on an item.

Infuriating
I got the big one the 600+ gph canister and it might be the most frustrating piece of aquarium equipment I have ever owned. Worked great for maybe a day, then return line kept collapsing, so I put pex pipe elbows and connectors on it, fixed problem so far. Then cleaning it is so meticulous, you have to literally take off screws to get to the impeller, and the impeller is this ridiculous wheel looking thing that is basically designed to get clogged up, the after you put it all together again it gurgles and makes noise until you get every bubble of air out of it, and it's not a quick 2-4 pumps of that lil plunger thing it's like 50+, and even then you got 2 days of it running quiet until it backs up with sludge and it's flow rate drops to half. I wouldn't buy one.

Worked well …..but
Don’t reduce the flow to the lowest unless unplugged ….. this actually closes the ball valve on the hoses. After doing this many time not knowing I was doing it. the last time I burned the motor and now the flow is terrible. Motor moves at a tickle. Less then 18 months worked on full power. Filter was clean. I turn the flow rate down while rinsing prefilter. When I turn the flow rate back up the flow did not go back up. Old review with 5 stars It has been working for over 3 months. I put a pre filter on the intake. This makes it so I don’t have to open the canister. There is no difference in the flow rate. Opened the filter to check after month and the filter is pretty clean. With the canister below the tank it has a natural water flow to remove the water. I found the the spray bar was Restricting the water flow back to the tank. I just removed the end and it created a nice flow that keeps floating plants circling the entire top…. 125 gallon with a wave maker on other side to complete cycle. The pre spong filter gets really dirty. I have dyi filters for way cheaper, but the location and space and price of the Aquarium I didn’t want to drill. Way cheaper to buy multiple of this canister filters then a new aquarium. If I needed another I would buy again. If I shut everything of in my fish room I still cannot hear this pump. Update:6 months running. water flow drops the more biological media and longer you go without rinsing. I like to clean the pre filter every two weeks. And the filter every 3 months. Remember the pre filter is really keeping the inside of the canister clean
