Are these bags sturdy to use to check in as baggage when flying?

These bags are very sturdy and would most likely be ok for a checked bag IF they were full of clothes. If it’s more than clothes I would not risk it as far as a checked bag. Hope this helps.

Can i use these to ship clothing and linens fedex/ups/etc?

You can certainly do that. The bags are pretty sturdy and should be able to hold up pretty well. I would advise you to tape it well if you plan on shipping items in it though.

I am seeing people saying these are not the extra large bags. Is that correct? I want to make sure i'm ordering the right thing.

I guess the term "extra large" is relative. This is the largest Ikea Fratka bag. The dimensions are 28 3/4" X 13 3/4" X 11 3/4. It is a 20 gallon bag. It is rated at 55 lbs. It is good, tough material and the stitching is done well. If that is extra large to you or just large... well, the size is there for you to make that determination.

Anybody know what the snaps and straps are for on the bottom of the bag? How do use them? Are they useful in some way?

The straps on the bottom are so that you are able to carry the bags like a book bag. You can carry them like a duffel bag from the top (zipper side) or from the bottom (like a book bag).
